Indie alt-rock group, The Wrecks share their first single of 2021, “I Want My Life Back Now.” An upbeat track about missing a certain time in one’s life and lost relationships.

Vocalist Nick Anderson shares, “Contrary to the suspiciously timely nature of the song’s title, ‘I Want My Life Back Now’ is not a Covid-19 cash-grab.”  The track is much more than that and appeals beyond battles regarding the pandemic. “I Want My Life Back Now” is lyrically as direct as its title. It’s about longing for a time with a special someone, wanting them back and wanting to go back to the way things were. “If you can imagine going through a break-up in the middle of an already devastatingly lonely global pandemic, this song might resonate a bit,” says Anderson.

Despite its mildly grim message, The Wrecks have a true alt-rock anthem. It’s an upbeat groove, driven by energetic drums and harmonies that give power to the vocals. “I want my life back now; I want to hit restart. I want you back in my bed, I want you back in my heart.” Anderson cries out in the chorus. The track slows down for the bridge where the vocals get distorted before kicking back into its spirited pace. The vibe of this track is similar to bands like SWMRS and The Maine. The Wrecks have a knack for turning hard hitting messages into friendly tunes.

The Wrecks formed in 2015 in Thousand Oaks, California. They cite The Pixies, The Strokes, and Weezer as their influences. And the band’s debut EP was recorded after they snuck into the studio to produce it themselves. Now the band has a handful of releases under their belt, and racked up millions of streams on Spotify. Additionally, they have toured alongside notable bands such as Nothing But Thieves, Silversun Pickups, The Struts and New Politics.

“I Want My Life Back Now” is The Wrecks’ first release for the year. It follows up their latest 2020 EP Static, which was released via Big Noise. For alt-rock and indie-rock lovers, fans of Paramore or All Time Low, The Wrecks are for you.
