When TikTok bought out Music.ly back in 2018, no one could have predicted that it would have become this multigenerational phenomenon. Combining all the best things kids enjoyed about Music.ly with all the brilliant elements of Vine – TikTok has made a name so big for itself that it may just get banned in the U.S. But until that day comes [hopefully never], we’ll be highlighting some musicians we discovered on the app – let’s face it, TikTok is full of viral talent that deserves to survive on multiple platforms.

This week, our first highlight of the day goes to singer/songwriter, Abigail Barlow – the newest name in music that you need to remember. Growing up, Abigail made it her mission to absorb as much music as humanly possible. Being exposed to the greats like Sir Elton John and Amy Winehouse to everyone in between – Abigail set her sights on becoming a professional singer.

Uprooting her life in Alabama she headed to LA, but a bad relationship would distract our young rising star. Lucky for us, the relationship ended – so with the trash taken out, we now got to enjoy the leftovers that had been turned into a full 5-course fine dining experience. Fulling immersing herself in her work, she caught the attention of pop star – Meghan Trainor – when a quick tune she wrote and shared on TikTok went viral. The catchy verse and chorus have gained over 454.2K views [to date] on the platform and Trainor instantly knew that this was going to be a hit that she had to be apart of. Unfortunately, Covid-19 shut down any plans to collab but that didn’t stop Abigail from creating.

She recently dropped a new single, “Heartbreak Hotel”, that in less than 48 hours, topped the iTunes Pop Charts at #6 and obtained over 200K streams on Spotify. Clearly, this girl is a talent beyond belief – but if you need more convincing, allow us to show you her latest “5-minute creation”.

The currently untitled track was shared on TikTok just 5 days ago and has already garnered over 320k views on the platform. With a soulful grace, Abigail touches listeners on such a deeper level. The 60-second clip features an all too relatable verse paired with a snappy chorus. With a pure, raw talent that can only be compared to Amy Winehouse or Lily Allen – Abigail is a quick spitfire that can do no wrong. Her latest update shows that she was quickly turning this TikTok hit into [no doubt] another chart-topping hit. With plans to release her EP, Abigail, on August 14, there’s no word yet on whether or not this new song will make it onto her first official release or if it will simply live on as a single. Miss Abigail Barlow, you are indeed a heartbreaker and it looks like we’ll be checking into the Heartbreak Hotel for the foreseeable future.
