She’s single-handedly bringing the 70’s to 2020

80’s and 90’s throwback trends have dominated the past few years — but for this week’s TikTok Tuesday, we’ll be traveling back to the 70’s with the jaw-dropping, Gabriella Valdes.
Seventeen year old Gabriella Valdes has re-popularized the vocal stylings of 70’s rock and roll with her recent TikToks. She blew up earlier this October with her cover of Everybody Loves An Outlaw’s viral track, “I See Red” — with the clip amassed over 20 million views seemingly overnight. Her most recent video is what caught our eye — a near identical rendition of Janis Joplin’s “Piece of my Heart.”

Her raspy yet powerful vocals are the staple of her up and coming persona. Her unique but inherently nostalgic vibe grabbed the attention of not only her TikTok followers, but also L1N3 Records. Gabriella signed with the record label quickly after her “I See Red” cover went viral. Under this new label, she’s announced a new single — “Sky Without Stars.” The single is set to be paired with a music video and is supposedly being followed by an album.
These viral hits are not Gabriella’s first releases; however, with her Spotify profile hosting an array of both stylish covers and original singles. For her original song “Afraid,” she released a music video on her YouTube channel. The track serves as her response to the troubling times we’re facing. She started the video with a black screen that reads, “Lately I’ve been very sad about what’s going on in the world, so I felt compelled to turn my feelings into art. This is what I ended up with. I hope if not anything, it leaves people with a lil’ sense of hope.” She slows it all down for this track, letting her crystal clear vocals and impactful lyrics do the talking.
Other fan favorite cover’s she’s released include, “Dance Monkey,” “Don’t Start Now,” and “Watermelon Sugar.” Her covers become noteworthy due to her ability to completely make a track her own — she brings the iconic stylings of the 70’s to these modern tracks in both the music and fashion. Not only are her vocals infectious, but so is her bright, care-free persona.
Gabriella Valdes is Janis Joplin reincarnated. With new representation and the promise of new music, we’ll be sure to watch as she rises to fame.
