We’ve mentioned this name a few times – whether it’s during our TikTok Tuesday Feature or our Throw Back Thursday mashup – Alex Melton continues to capture our attention. Best known for his country remakes of pop-punk hits – Alex has been gaining the most traction since a viral TikTok challenge where he took Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” to new heights no one could have dreamed of. Recently Alex put out a country rendition of Slipknot’s iconic “Duality” and it actually works.

When asked about how this insane cover concept came to be Alex shares, “I randomly heard the Slipknot tune a few weeks ago and I immediately thought the verses had the cadence of one of those country rap songs that have been gaining popularity. So I re-harmonized that epic chorus melody into a more country-friendly chord progression and found that it worked surprisingly well! I took a lot of inspiration from Jason Aldean’s ‘Dirt Road Anthem’ for the chord progression and feel of the song.”

Alex’s cover possesses that signature country twang that wraps around the twisted lyrics from Slipknot. In a TikTok video showcasing the cover, Alex adds the caption, “I feel like this is cursed audio.” Within the same day of posting his TikTok teaser, the full version could be heard on his YouTube channel. While Slipknot fans may hate to admit it – this cover absolutely slaps and now fans across Alex’s social media platforms are throwing more songs his way that they need country covers of. Who knew in 2020 we would be jamming to a country-fide version of one of the most iconic Slipknot songs in their discography? Then again, man-eating trees could appear and we wouldn’t question it at this point. Irregardless [yup, this became official in 2020 too], Alex needs to put together a full-on XX goes Country album – you can’t not smile at the thought of Slipknot in cowboy hats and boots.
