Aly & AJ release their new music video for “Listen!!!” — their latest song since the explicit re-release of “Potential Breakup Song”.

The sisters reflect on the weight we may feel in this new normal. “Listen! I’m feeling like a hostage here, it’s clear something went missing” echoes the chorus throughout the song. Its synth pop groove and harmonies add a positive twist to its lyrical message. The video features two modern dancers [choreographed by Milka Djordjevich] wearing face masks as a nod to the lockdown era of the pandemic. Aly & AJ thrash it out, kicking moving boxes in front of AJ’s new home. Flashbacks to protests are also featured, and the duo focuses on conveying a message of feeling trapped and lost by a system. Nonetheless they emphasize that there still is hope as they call out, “I might be lost but I know my way out.”

Longtime friend and mentor,  Nancy Wilson of Heart, adds to the instrumental on backing vocals and guitar. Jack Tatum of Wild Nothing also joins on backing vocals and synths. “Listen!!!” was written prior to January 2020 and the two glad to see the song appropriately fit into our world now. This single reminds us that Aly & AJ are not just a memory of our past, they want listeners to join them in moving forward in their musical endeavors.

Many are familiar with Aly & AJ from their entertainment careers in the 2000’s. In 2018, the sisters returned with Ten Years, an EP to celebrate the end of a long hiatus. This rebirth of their music careers reintroduced the synth pop duo as they share the excitement of returning to music. Fans can see the evolution of their sound [and maturity] in their acclaimed 2020 hits “Joan of Arc on the Dance Floor” (included in NPR’s Best Music of 2020 list) and “Attack of Panic” [included in Billboard’s “30 Best Pop Songs of 2020” list]. Aly & AJ even re-released an explicit version of “Potential Breakup Song” after the cult classic became a trailblazing trend on TikTok.
