Israeli pop-punk band Bare Dreams just released the music video for their single “I Cannot Forget” on November 30, 2021. The track was originally released on Wednesday, November, 17th and was produced by Neil D. Kennedy [Creeper, Milk Teeth, Boston Manor]. “I Cannot Forget” is an infectious and dramatic track that details vocalist Itay Aviv’s journey through his past, which required therapy sessions to navigate the conflicting mental feelings that presented themselves throughout adolescence. The new video also reflects this concept.

The music video for Bare Dreams’ “I Cannot Forget” begins with lead singer Aviv sitting down for a therapy session as the drums and bass play in the background. Aviv sings “I cannot forget those words you’ve said/ You’ll be ok, you’ll find your way /This pain will go away,” speaking on words his own therapist has said to him. Unfortunately, Aviv is still waiting for that day to come. From the very first lines, you are drawn in, relating to the lyrics whether you’ve experienced therapy or not. The music video follows Aviv as he leaves his private therapy session and heads into what appears to be a group therapy session. As the chorus hits, the video alternates between Aviv singing to the group and standing at the mic with his other band members at his side. Aviv alludes to a broken relationship, admitting “I’m pretty sure I’m better off alone.” We can once again relate to Aviv at this moment through our own broken relationships and negative thoughts and feelings.

As the video continues and Aviv talks about his adolescence, we see Aviv as a child in his room. It is clear that he is experiencing some kind of conflict. He paces his room, tears out pieces of notebook paper, sits in a fetal position on his bed. All the while, adult Aviv is still talking to his fellow group members about his struggles. Young Aviv paints his nails, grabs his backpack from his closet, and heads out the door. All of a sudden, adult Aviv gets up from his seat, leaving the meeting room, and taking off running. The video alternates between the two versions of Aviv running as the music escalates. Young Aviv turns into adult Aviv as he takes the mic, launching us into the final chorus of the song. Bare Dreams is performing at some sort of outdoor venue. The video ends with Aviv picking up the backpack that the younger version of him dropped and walking off the screen.

“I Cannot Forget” is the first track to be taken from their forthcoming debut album Joy, set for release in early 2022 via Ranch Records. The album is the purest distillation of the band’s sound to date. Familiar and ambitious in equal measure, their debut LP tackles growing up with mental illness from many different points of view, lyrically, musically, and sonically.

Formed in Tel Aviv, Bare Dreams are at the forefront of the burgeoning alternative scene in Israel and sell-out headline shows across the country. Bare Dreams draws upon personal experience and their complex surroundings to deliver an energetic, engaging, and emotive sound, which has drawn favorable comparisons with acts such as Paramore and Jimmy Eat World with their rousing, charged brand of pop-punk.
