Finsta star turned growing musical icon, beabadoobee has just released a performance video for her latest single, “10:36.” The video comes less than a week after the single’s release — a single that has already amassed thousands of streams across platforms.
Breaking through with a Smashing Pumpkins vibe, beabadoobee performs her new hit in an apartment that looks like a tornado ran through it. Empty bottles and broken glass are scattered around the room, while records fall out of their protective coverings and hung art just barely clings to the walls. A backup band supports beabadoobee as she effortlessly performs “10:36.” With the room light by the blaring sun shining through a window in the far corner, the vibe echoes a post apocalyptic scene — a fitting feel as the single was written in the mist of the 2020 lockdowns.
Speaking on the single beabadoobee shares, “’10:36′ was written after Fake It Flowers and just before Our Extended Play, and I had envisioned it to be on that EP, but I was just sitting on that riff for ages and then I properly made a demo during lockdown. It was called ‘10:36’ because that was the time I finished writing it. It’s basically about how I have this weird dependency on human contact to sleep.”
“10:36” joins beabadoobee’s previously released singles “Lovesong,” “Talk” and “See You Soon” — all of which are set to be housed on beabadoobee’s sophomore album. With a release date scheduled for July 15 via Dirty Hit, Beatopia aims to be some of beabadoobee’s most impressive work to date, with the Rolling Stone quoted as saying, “The line between real and make-believe has always been blurry in the music that Kristi writes as beabadoobee. In her Nineties-inspired indie rock anthems, she’s unafraid to tease out her inner swirl of paranoia and distorted realities… [on] Beatopia, she exhibits a newfound self-acceptance that pushes her to confront her demons and revel in her unfettered imagination.” Beatopia is the fantastical world created by the imagination of a 7-year-old beabadoobee — while impressive in nature, it offers fans a more personal look at one of their favorite artists. Beatopia is currently available for pre-order in the form of CDs, cassette tapes and vinyl records, but of course every beabadoobee fan can benefit from one of the many merch bundles also available.
