Chicago continues to prove it breeds raw talent as R&B and pop artist Bianca Shaw drops her latest single with its accompanying music video, “Lightning.” A true force of nature, Shaw refuses to live within the confines of ‘just a singer’. Riding the high of her 2021 LP release Get a Real Job, “Lightning” offers a look at Shaw’s next step in her ever growing career.

Opening with a popular beat seen across pop hits like “You On My Mind” by Ellie Goulding, but made completely unique with the flair only an artist of Shaw’s caliber can bring. Stacked with layers of production you’d normally only hear in a musical remix ‘mash-up’, “Lightning” gets you bouncing from the jump. Relatable lyrics, “I just wanna get away, from everything, a whole new energy, secret identity / I save my best days, to live my life with, I feel like flying, and I can’t hide it,” are delivered in a swift motion, with creative freedom in regards to melody and rhythm.

The stunning music video showcases a couple in counseling — a common ultimatum for those who feel unheard and under appreciated — where our heroine is seen with a visual representation of her daily battery and where all her energy is going. With tension building due to the same song and dance Shaw exits the therapy session early with her battery beginning to drain. In a turn of events, her partner finally gets the answer to the age old question, “oh you’re tired? From what?” Through a looking glass experience, we watch as Shaw’s battery takes hit after hit from stress at work, to being a caretaker to finally coming home only to be met by headaches delivered by the mail man. This one day’s events was enough to snap her partner out of his entitlement to realize when your partner says they are drained, they’re asking you to recharge them, not compete with them on who had the longer day. Too often people get too involved within their own emotions they forget about their partners’. But recharging doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your energy for theirs, your presence can be more than enough to allow them to breathe.

Bianca Shaw stays on the ‘Ones to Watch’ list — marked as an artist that should always have an eye on her as she climbs her way to the top of the industry. Being featured on outlets like Good Morning America, ABC’s Windy City LIVE, Audiotree TV and Sway’s Universe, it’s no wonder she’s become a hot commodity for collaborations. So far having worked with Chance the Rapper, Twista and Taylor Bennett, the world is at the end of their seat waiting for Bianca Shaw’s next move.
