Charming Liars have shared their sentimental new music video for their latest single, “LOSERS,” a vocally driven alternative anthem for all the ones who feel overlooked and underestimated. The track is about evolving through the good and the bad. Speaking on the new single, the band shares, “Our new song ‘Losers’ was inspired by one thing – who we become after losing something or someone irreplaceable. It’s in those moments of transformation that we feel the sharpest edges of our humanity and it’s also when we find our truest strength. This song’s about finding ownership and pride in the losses that helped make up the person you are today. It’s about time we sing a song for the losers.”
The video features fan submitted clips, with moving stories all around. The fans begin with holding up signs about their physical, emotional, and mental struggles, and the dark times they’ve faced. The song blossoms and the fans do alongside, opening up about the moment of light at the end of the tunnel. They hold up new signs with all of the good things in their lives that saved them. They also share comfort and advice to viewers going through the same things.
“LOSERS” follows Charming Liars’ recent cover of Post Malone’s “Circles.” All proceeds from purchases and streams of the cover benefit disaster relief in Lebanon through donations to Lebanese Red Cross, Impact Lebanon, Saint George Hospital Beirut, and other organizations seeking to help rebuild after the explosions that devastated the area earlier this summer. “LOSERS” also comes on the foot of other recent singles, “Disco Elvis,” “Favorite Show,” “Golden State,” “Blame,” “Flames,” and “IMPACT.”
Charming Liars‘ journey began in London’s West End when guitarist Karnig Manoukian and bassist Mike Kruger were still teenagers. Both came from homes with wide ranging and eclectic musical tastes, and that early exposure informed their approach to making music. They started writing and playing together in a series of bands and performed with several tours up and down the U.K. In 2013, they decided to make the move to Los Angeles, encouraged by a social media message from songwriter and producer John Feldmann (Panic! at the Disco, Plain White T’s, 5 Seconds of Summer, Blink-182), who told them to look him up for a songwriting session if they were ever in town.
They soon connected with vocalist Kiliyan Maguire through a mutual friend, and after conversations and eventual songwriting and recording sessions, they realized that they had an organic musical chemistry that flowed naturally and proved to produce exciting content.
2019 ended up being a breakout year for the band, as they released their debut album, Thought, Flesh and Bone, a follow-up acoustic EP, Bare Bones, and then finished the year off strong with a live collection titled Live 2019. They went on to headline shows on the West Coast, touring Europe with The Faim, and crossing the US to support for Angels & Airwaves. Recently, the band returned to Europe with Palaye Royale, who they will be supporting on The Bastards World Tour.
