Vocal powerhouse Donna Missal releases the live video performance of “Let You Let Me Down” — a fan favorite off her sophomore album Lighter . Directed by English filmmaker Rodrigo Inada, the two were able to collaborate on capturing this emotional performance.

I reached out to Rodrigo on Instagram DM over the summer while quarantined, and asked if he would want to make something together despite my being in L.A. and him being in London,” explains Missal. “Rodrigo directed this video over FaceTime, and screen sharing in real time, while my band and I performed the song. I wanted to do something live in the absence of touring, but with the intention of reinterpreting what it meant to perform live, in a time where we can only experience it through a screen. Rodrigo really understood that.

The video focuses solely on the captivating and dynamic performance. Missal introduces the song as a crooning pop ballad, she flaunts her sweet and smooth vocal capabilities. Nonetheless, the song builds into an alt pop/rock anthem. Listeners feel the emotion and passion Missal exudes through her gritty and belting vocals. Then, she gently stretches into the final crescendo, leaving listeners satisfied with the last refrain.

Donna says, “I got to a point in writing the album that I had said everything I wanted to say about someone else fucking up. I wanted to talk about the role I played in letting something consume me and burn me down. In ‘Let You Let Me Down,’ I’m addressing that I need to change too, so I don’t rebuild myself the same way but come back from it stronger and better.

The New Jersey native has amassed over 50 million combined global streams across all of her songs. Capitol Music Group and Genesis even included Donna Missal in their one-take performance series, Capitol Cuts. “Let You Let Me Down” is one of six songs Missal performed. Additionally, she recently covered Cigarettes After Sex’sNothing’s Gonna Hurt You Baby” for the Promising Young Woman: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack which took honors for Outstanding Soundtrack Album at the Hollywood Media in Music Awards last week.
