WATCH: Fletcher Unveils New Single And Video for “Forever”

Pop singer and songwriter Fletcher returned with another brutally honest pop-bop with “Forever.” The song talks about having a perfect partner but asking to postpone the relationship nonetheless. “I got a couple drunk kisses I still need to get out my system,” she reveals in the lyrics. “You the type I wanna spend my whole life with/But not the one I spent tonight with.” Fletcher’s uncertainty comes from the impulse to party and hook up, but it’s also about learning to love herself before committing to another type of love with somebody.

This song is about knowing who ‘the one’ might be but needing to find myself before I give that person my time forever,” says Fletcher about “Forever.” “The relationships in my life are really important to me, but I’ve realized the one that I’ve been neglecting my entire life is the one I have with myself. Heading into this year and next project, I made a promise to focus my energy on getting to know myself and to date myself for the first time. I’m making mistakes, fucking up, and learning lessons the hard way…I’m having fun, but definitely crying too. I’m learning who I am and who I want to be. It’s not easy and I have no idea what I’m doing, but does anyone really?

The accompanying music video, directed by Ethan Lader, sheds light on the young and careless, as Fletcher and an entourage of women loosen up and dance. If you look closely at the movements of the women, you can see how they express their sexualities in ways that seize gender norms. This new era for the New York native switches the narrative having her being the one breaking hearts, instead of her being brokenhearted like in her past projects.
