L.A. based group Iglu & Hartly continue on their comeback with their incredibly infectious track “Cheetah.” Co-produced by Mark Needham of The Killers, Imagine Dragons, and Walk The Moon acclaim, the track balances between intense and moody lyrics and a totally hands-in-the-air, fun chorus. This is the second track from the group in the past few months — marking their return to the pop music scene following an extended hiatus.

“Cheetah” begins with quickly rapped lyrics over a spacious and driving beat, reminiscent of early Linkin Park and other crossover rap genres. The lyrics reflect on a difficult journey, possibly documenting the trials of their ten-year hiatus which is referenced at the end of the first verse. “After digging in the hole, ten years flew by/Suddenly so clear, the truth standing together/We know… it’s time to finally go,” Iglu & Hartly rap, ending the verse with the notion of letting go and releasing oneself into their full potential. This verse breaks into the chorus, a soaring melody that truly sends the song into pop bliss. “You and I/We can run like the cheetahs do/Tell me that you feel it too/And we can run together.” Combined with the flow of the verse, the chorus truly reflects the years of hard work and reflection the band made prior to its release.

The video for “Cheetah” takes a slightly more whimsical approach to the themes of the song, following Iglu & Hartly dressed in animal onesies as they dance on top of cars, and running across sandy beaches before surfing into the sunset. Their nostalgic sound is in full display through the vintage aesthetic of the film and the retro-California vibes of the featured locales. Combined with the visuals, this is the perfect song for a summer beach day or even a long drive down the coast with the windows down and the music loud.

Iglu & Hartly took a ten-year hiatus from the music world following the release of their smash hit “In This City.” Hitting #5 on the UK Pop Charts, the track was one of the most successful singles of the year.  This sudden rise to fame strained the relationship between the band members and caused them to take a break from the industry for ten years. They returned with a performance at the Hermosa Beach Summer Series Festival which skyrocketed them back into the public eye. “As we closed out our set, and the sun was setting over the water, it just felt like the universe handed us a massive 2nd chance to continue the Iglu & Hartly story,” says Anderson, the lead vocals and co-producer of the track. The release of their 2020 comeback single “Cooler,” found them back in the limelight with fans overjoyed by their return. “Cheetah” further delivers on their comeback and makes them one of the most impressive groups to watch out for in 2021.
