Pop sensation, Jesse McCartney is back with a new music video for his single, “Friends”. Since the start of the lockdowns – and ultimately the return to lockdown for many – people have been finding new ways to stay busy and connect with loved ones. Jesse is no stranger to being multi-talented – from singing and songwriting to acting in hit shows like Young & Hungry and Greek. So when quarantine hit Jesse took this time to craft his gardening and general DIY skills. But McCartney still felt a need to be creative within his music career – he has already accomplished so much the only thing left for him to tackle was an animated music video. Calling upon the talented Nick Peterson and some of his former Greek brethren [Scott Michael Foster, Jacob Zachar, and Paul James] Jesse and friends embarked on a boy’s trip they won’t soon forget.
Starting out an innocent enough Zoom chat that quickly turns extraordinary as Jesse unlocks a portal zapping the crew to a new animated dimension – guess Jesse forgot to mention he was sprucing up on his science skills during quarantine too. Transformed into Big Mouth-inspired characters, Jesse and the crew land in a field of hamburger trees, slightly dizzy but overall ok – well, except for Jacob Zachar who’s ear seems to have been pushed slightly askew during transport. Over the course of the nearly 3-minute video, Jesse and the guys hit the bar, taken down a tough guy, avoid a demonic disaster before crashing down on a deserted island full of adoring Jesse McCartney fans and one super smooth turtle. But soon paradise proves to be more than these friends had originally planned for – with Jesse’s fiancé, Katie Peterson, coming to the rescue, 3 of the 4 buds are transported back to their proper dimension – all of them basically ok.
Jesse shared some details going into this project, “These last few months have been challenging in many ways, but it’s also inspired me to be more creative with the limited resources that I have. I had always wanted to shoot something animated, and because assembling a crew together to shoot a live-action video was impossible, this felt like the perfect time.” When it came time to choose which friends would star in this different kind of video Jesse shares, “I thought it would add another layer of interest and nostalgia to have a group of familiar faces. This was the animated reunion Of 2020 and we were able to do it all from behind our laptops. I couldn’t have done it without the guys Jacob Zacher, Paul James, Scott Foster, and of course the lovely Katie Peterson. I think everyone can relate to needing a bit of normality back in their lives. For me, seeing my friends is something I miss most, but I guess for now, I’ll have to fly through portals to see them!”
To add to his growing list of friends, Jesse went live yesterday on his YouTube channel to welcome the premiere of the video. Along with giving the fans the opportunity today to have a personal one-on-one meet and greet chats, Jesse has been finding new and innovative ways to not only stay busy but to make sure he connects with the ones he cares about most. “Friends” is the missing feel-good track that will definitely be blasted at your next Zoom gathering.
