Lauren Sanderson has released the music video for “But I Like It,” a track taken off of her debut album Midwest Kids Can Make It Big. Draped in a raw, punk-rock ambience — black balloons and a grainy, home-video quality compliment the grinding electric guitars and Sanderson’s impressive vocals.

Sanderson is anything but shy in this flirty anthem. The track shows her smitten with a prim and proper girl who not only drives her dad’s Mercedes but also drives Sanderson crazy. Her confidence beams through the production and shows a cocky side to Sanderson’s sound — “She wanna be my baby, I wanna drive her crazy.” There’s a self-assured confidence to the lyrics that shows a powerful chemistry between the pair that is twanged with intensity. “All of my friends think I’m losing my mind/Trust me I do it almost all of the time,” Sanderson coos. Love makes all of us crazy, and this kind of manic energy is infectious throughout the song.

Sanderson says of the track, “No one should ever be able to box you in. Feel the fear & do it anyway. Sounds cliché, but we literally have one life. Do what you want, say what you mean and do it all with your f*cking chest. That’s the only life I ever wanna live.”  This mentality is a challenge but is also inspirational and is showcased by the rest of her discography.

The video furthers Sanderson’s ‘don’t give a f*ck attitude’ as she kicks open doors, poses with her tongue out, and extinguishes her cigarette in a birthday cake. The track will have you aching to kick in doors of your own while you break out a killer air guitar. It’s impossible to not feel empowered by the bass line and bubbly nature that underlines the single. While her sound is reminiscent to artists like Mikey Ferrari and FLETCHER, her presentation rivals that of industry greats like Mac Miller and Billie Eilish.

Lauren Sanderson is the definition of a one-woman act. She kickstarted her career by herself after making music in her bedroom at the age of 19, shooting music videos with her friends back home in Indiana, and pretending to be her own manager to book her first shows. All of this hard work paid off as her first full length album Midwest Kids Can Make It Big has pulled nearly 2 million streams on Spotify. Her music is a blend of rock, hip-hop, pop, and R&B which come together to make a unique sound that can’t be tamed.
