Empowering and confidence-boosting track and visual

Lola Young Woman music video

Lola Young has unveiled the official music video for her current, empowering single, Woman. The video, directed by, Olivia Rose [Jorja Smith, 6LACK ft. Future, Skepta and Ty Dolla $ign ft. J. Cole], encaptures the empowerment of women, with a uniquely different cast of females featuring a variety of body types, ethnicities, and body modifications – and while the women may differ physically, their confidence all lives on the same level.

Young shared a statement on what the song and the video mean to her personally, I wanted to make this video because I believe women are all undeniably strong, sexy, free, brave, vulnerable, raw and powerful. And that we do not have to hide away. We do not have to remain unseen, our bodies should never be sexualized or a taboo conversation, or only seen through the male gaze. We have the ability to normalize our bodies being on show, and accept them for their differences, as it’s important to remember those differences are currently often shamed. I came up with the idea of the women in the video being fully nude. The energy on set was insane, I have never felt more empowered in my life. Nipples, bums, rolls, stretch marks, cellulite, all of these things are beautiful along with the ‘perfect’ body. This is my personal experience of being a woman, hopefully other women will have their own take on what it means to them.”

The Woman video opens with Young saying I’m only gonna say this once. What you’re about to see is Women in all their glory, and all their pain, unapologetic in their self-love, and unashamed in this moment of vanity. We are powerful. We are Woman,” cueing the track’s beginning. The video displays the sexy confidence that these women share, showing off their skin without a care in the world. Throughout the video, all the women shown are in-tune with their bodies – moving to the music, draped in a dramatic light, they show their bodies as they are without an ounce of shame. Lola looks stunning with dark lipstick and curls matted to her flawless skin, singing the anthemic song with passion and confidence.

Woman arrives on the heels of Young’s EP Renaissance. The track caught airwaves on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show  – its first U.K. play. The song was co-produced by GRAMMY winner Paul Epworth (Adele, Mumford & Sons). The track is perfect for a boost of confidence and a reminder that the body you have is the only one you’ve got, so why not love it? Especially with a history of oppression and sexualization, women should have total control over their bodies while also loving them unconditionally. Lola Young captured this perfectly with Woman.”
