You know them, you love them, you grew up with them, they’re on the soundtrack to all of our emo days – we are of course talking about, pop-punk leaders Mayday Parade. Mayday Parade has gathered a group of musical friends to record a effervescent cover with a punk twist of The Beatles’ classic bubblegum pop track, “I Want To Hold Your Hand.”  Mayday Parade rallied fellow musicians, John O’Callaghan [The Maine], Travis Clark [We The Kings], Dan Lambton [formerly of Real Friends], Joe Taylor [Knuckle Puck], Collin Walsh and Nick Veno [Grayscale], and Dallas Molster.

Mayday Parade’s frontman, Derek Sanders, shared that the idea for the collaboration came from wanting to create something for fans that was happy, fun, and exciting in these difficult times – “We wanted to take advantage of the extra time away from tour that we have and record a cover for all of you. ‘I Want To Hold Your Hand’ is one of the catchiest songs we could think of and it was a real pleasure to put this together.”  The song serves as a perfect interpretation of what we’re all feeling during quarantine… missing our friends and families, missing physical proximity, and missing the simple, pure intimacy of holding hands.

The video, filmed in quarantine, features footage taken by each of the musicians from across the US. Using a concept of TV screens weaving in and out of the frame, they feature the collection of separate clips giving us the feel-good video of the decade. Mayday bassist, Jeremy Lenzo, shared, “We didn’t know how it was going to all come together, but we knew it was going to be fun. We wanted to make a video for it, but weren’t sure how to use the footage to make it all feel connected.”

“I Want To Hold Your Hand”  comes after the sad announcement that Mayday Parade’s once postponed North American Tour to support their March single, “It Is What It Is”, has now been cancelled. With fans obviously disappointed in not being able to see one of their favorite pop-punk bands live, the question of everyone’s safety had to, of course, take priority. Despite the setback, the band has been consistently finding ways to stay connected with fans, one of which is by hosting a series of Happy Hours once a month their YouTube channel, and Facebook Live featuring Mayday Trivia and Q&A sessions.

While this month’s Happy Hour Live happened last week, today Mayday Parade is hosting a very special live on their Facebook and YouTube to celebrate the release of “I Want To Hold Your Hand”. The live will feature two of their collaboration buddies, The Maine’s John O’Callaghan and Knuckle Puck’s, Joe Taylor. This all kicks off 7pm ET – until then, be sure to watch the video for “I Want To Hold Your Hand”  below and gather up with some killer questions for this lovely group of people.
