Up-and-coming indie rock artist Michigander has released a beautifully stripped-down version of his latest single, “Let Down.”  The original is already a huge success, topping radio charts across the country and amassing thousands of streams on the internet.  It has been featured in Apple Music and Spotify playlists as well as on SirusXM’s Alt Nation channel.  Fans were clamoring for a stripped-back version on social media which Michigander was more than happy to provide.

While the original version was driven by electric guitars and bright synths, this dialed back release allows Michigander’s beautiful voice to really shine through with just two guitars accompanying him.  It feels like a more intimate and soft approach to the idea that, “Love will find you when it’s ready.”  This lyric is expressed with reassurance in the stripped version which perfectly contrasts its more bombastic sound in the original.

Michigander is the moniker for Michigan based singer and songwriter Jason Singer who has been a staple in the indie music world since 2014.  The release of this stripped back version feels natural as much of his previously released tracks are written this way.  “It’s always cool to strip my songs back to just acoustic guitar and hear them at their simplest form.  Most of my songs are written on just a guitar and I think this gives people the chance to experience the song for what it is at its core,” Singer said of the release.

Michigander’s latest EP Where Do We Go From Here was released back in 2019 to much critical acclaim from major music outlets like NPR, NME, and Paste.  His sound is a unique spin on indie rock music that he describes as, “big pop songs disguised with guitars.”  Both takes of “Let Down” feel like two sides of the same coin; the original could be blasting out of your car stereo on a sunny afternoon speeding through the countryside while the acoustic take is best suited for a cool evening spent sitting by a bonfire and sharing s’mores.

Fans of Roo Panes, James Spaite, and Bright Eyes will instantly fall in love with Michigander’s sound.  He also released a more directly folk inspired track titled “48” along with “Let Down,” and both tracks combine to solidify Michigander’s indie-folk/rock sound that is taking the airwaves by storm.  These tracks are just the latest in Michigander’s discography, but they are definitely part of a new era for the project that has a big future ahead of it.
