Pop-punk trophy act, Neck Deep have just released the final single off their forthcoming fourth full-length album, All Distortions Are Intentional. Last Thursday Neck Deep dropped their fourth single from the record, “I Revolve (Around You)”, accompanied by the band’s first fully animated video. In it, we continue to follow our protagonist’s, Jett, journey through an intergalactic date with an alien hottie. Throughout “I Revolve (Around You)” we see the softer side of Jett that we were first introduced to in “Lowlife”. But what comes up must come down – emotions are an ever spirally rollercoaster making us feel like a “Sick Joke”.
Frontman, Ben Barlow, shares the meaning behind the track telling, “It’s a song that questions the fabric of reality whilst battling mental health. Jett contemplates whether life itself is even real, in fairly ethereal terms, due to the internal suffering he is experiencing. Shredding solos, punchy rhythms and stomping drums drive the song along, and it sonically represents the more minor/ driven side of the record.”
While we don’t actually catch a glimpse of Jett, we brought down the deeper into the rabbit hole that is Sonderland. Neck Deep are seen playing in an open face house, filled with dizzying graphics and a psychedelic overcast. Our pop-punk narrators are designated their own room within the house – blaring out the internal truth too many of us resonate with. “Sometimes I wonder/If life is some sick joke…And most days, it all feels the same/I can’t tell no difference in pleasure and pain” is belted out by Barlow as he switches between the confines of this mystical home to the less than calming shade under a purple berry tree.
Within the world of Sonderland, you face the troubling reality that everyone is essentially the same in their own right – there are no pedestals to sit atop. Ben describes it as “It’s that strange existential realization that you are not the entire world. Everyone around you feels and lives the same way that you do. You’re just an extra in their story.” The video facilitates an underlining nauseous feeling, deep in the pit of your stomach – those internalized feelings making a physical appearance.
With mere days until this monumental release, Neck Deep are clearly getting antsy. Across their social media yesterday, they announced 3 very intimate acoustic shows and signings planned for November. For four days, Neck Deep will be traveling around the UK to finally give fans an in-person performance. Tickets for these special live shows can be found linked below. In less than 48 hours, All Distortions Are Intentional will be blasting across the airwaves – and we’ll finally get to experience Jett’s story in full.
