LA native, alt-pop artist Nolo Grace is back with her newest video for “Miss Perfect.” Though only her second single, the track showcases themes of empowerment and self discovery over an uplifting pop sound, reminiscent of Normani’s “Motivation.” The lyrics carry this freeing theme, boasting lines like,Tryin’ to be Miss Perfect/Wasn’t really worth it/Found my own perfection/In accepting my reflection.”

Set in a 1960s suburb, the video opens with Grace, a housewife, seeing her husband off to work. Challenging the idea of the ‘perfect’ nuclear family, we follow Grace as she rebels against her role. Throughout the video, she can be found abandoning household duties and ultimately doing things for herself, leaving her perfect image behind.

A former corporate executive, Grace found herself burnt-out and unfulfilled. “Miss Perfect” describes her journey to break free from society’s standards. The music video comments on these standards, showing that it is possible to escape the chains that once held you from your potential.

Grace spoke about the track, saying “’Miss Perfect’ so perfectly marks the completion of a cycle for me—of creating the life I have always dreamed of—by coming to a place of self-love and self-acceptance. I wrote ‘Miss Perfect’ the day before I moved in with my then-boyfriend as LA was going on lockdown. We had only been dating for 3 months, and two days later we were married and living in quarantine together. I found myself in quarantine developing as a producer/artist and focusing on personal growth and low. It was a period of going inward, and now I’m ready to share and engage with the world”

Grace exploded onto the scene with her dreamy debut single, “Wake Up.” Featuring renowned singer Sean Kingston, “Wake Up” explores similar themes of self discovery. Over an R&B inspired track, Grace’s melodic vocals pair well with Kingston’s mellow verse.

Grace’s catchy lyrics make it hard to forget that “Miss Perfect” is only her second single. Grace seeks to release more singles, videos, and an album to carry us to the end of the year.
