TikTok sensation and now musician, Payton Moormeier recently released the new music video for “Love Letter,” a track that blends pop and hip-hop influences. The single itself currently sits at 1.5 million streams, speaking to the power of social media within the music industry. No better example of this is Justin Bieber, whose songs Moormeier began covering online at twelve years old. That was his first experience combining music and media. This later transformed into one of his TikToks, set to Halsey’s “Without Me,” going viral and gaining him 12 million followers on the platform along the way. Now, as a rising musician with his debut single “Love Letter” already making waves, it’s safe to say that this is just the first of many songs to come from Payton Moormeier.
The music video premiered on Just Jared, with Moormeier expanding on the backstory of “Love Letter” the teen-targeted magazine, “‘Love Letter’ was a really special project to me and I’m super excited to finally be dropping this music video for it. The video brings you through the studio sessions making ‘Love Letter,’ which is really dope because you guys all get to see and relive the day we made this special song!”
The music video for “Love Letter” by Payton Moormeier features Payton in a room with red lighting, showing the process of making the single. There are shots of Payton singing into a recording mic, editing the song on the computer, and nodding along to the beat with friends/coworkers. Payton sings about not getting the love he deserves from a partner, transitioning into the chorus where he says “Yea, I don’t even know myself/Tryna help me but/I don’t need help/You said you loved me and no one else/Yeah, so here’s a love letter to myself.” After the chorus, there is a voice message from a girl trying to check in on Payton. We can assume this is the girl that Payton sings about in the song. He quickly dismisses her attempts to check in on him, knowing that her concern isn’t real because she doesn’t love him. The video continues with shots of Payton singing and vibing to his song. By the end of the song, Payton realizes that he doesn’t need love from someone else, he is just fine loving himself. We find inspiration in Payton’s message to love ourselves too.
