Singer-songwriter Rae Isla shares a new single, “Lovely Lies” which comes off her upcoming debut record Another Life. This folk-pop track literally transports you to “another life” as Isla’s delivers her heartfelt lyrics with a smooth croon. The music video is a cinematic creation straight from Isla’s mind.

“Lovely Lies” begins with a funk beat, uniquely paired with a layer of banjo to give it a folksy kick. Soon, it settles into a smooth verse, where Rae Isla takes the reign, “I’ve been sleeping on a pile of stones. Slowly weakening my back bone. Every morning I hear it creak, I guess time’s wheel is spinning for me.” Only soft keys and dampened drum kicks carry the beat before the track builds into its effervescent crooning chorus. She explains the track, “The song itself is about wanting so badly to believe in something that you go along with the lie – because the truth is just too hard to realize.” It’s a creative track with many unique touches, one being the addition of subtle sax and horns to add to the caress of Rae Isla’s voice.

The video was filmed in Mexico City, where a team of female producers from Seattle to Las Vegas, joins Isla to help her bring life to this creative endeavor. It’s visually an ethereal fever dream. “In the video, I take a journey through time, space, and memory to find my dreamscape desert planet, but soon realize that we’re not meant to escape from reality. We have to face it.” Says Isla. With sparse choreography to embody the track’s flow, and a swirling cinematic desert-space backdrop, Isla takes you on a journey.

“Lovely Light” is the second single Rae Isla uses to showcase what to expect from her forthcoming record. It stylistically falls between indie, pop and folk. But holds a unique addition of breathy saxophone highlights. Isla’s voice floats overtop of the instrumental as she sings a song about love and deception which she penned. For those who enjoy Lucy Dacus and Phoebe Bridgers’ songwriting style, this track may be similar. Lover’s of the 1993 song “Fade Into You” by Mazzy Star, will instantly gravitate towards “Lovely Lies” as it carries the same ethereal spirit — with a modern touch, of course.

Rae Isla is a Americana pop-artist originally from an island nearby Seattle. She now spends her time between Brooklyn, Seattle and Mexico City. For the last few years Rae Isla has prepared for her debut record. She creates a narrative that speaks to a personal bond between music and being a part of the LGBTQ+ community. On May 7th Isla will share more of her work penned from the heart on her debut full length, Another Life.
