Slayyyter CowboysPop icon Slayyyter has released the video for her latest single “Cowboys” off of her upcoming sophomore album Troubled Paradise. “Cowboys” is a campy, psychedelic infused experience featuring iconic fashion pieces and vintage, spaghetti western film footage. Slayyyter rages against an ex lover atop horses while wielding vintage revolvers and ultimately delivering one of the most fun releases of the year.

Of all the singles from Troubled Paradise so far, “Cowboys” is certainly the most classically Slayyyter.  She airs out her grievances with a lover through rapping and singing over a fantastically produced guitar beat. She leans into the Western camp with lyrics like “Bang bang shot me down on the first night/Shoulda known this would end in a gun fight/He was my John Wayne in the moonlight/Then gone in a flash with the sunrise.”  It’s truly the perfect power anthem to get over an ex.

The video reads like a Western film gone haywire, with traditional black-and-white film footage spliced together with neon smoke-filled hazy shots of Slayyyter flippantly singing to the camera. The fashion of the video is if Kacey Musgraves met Paris Hilton in the best possible way. Space cowboy doesn’t even begin to describe the neon green chaps, leather-studded cowboy hat, and the fringe, cropped denim jacket with “Slayyyter” printed on the back. It’s a Coachella fantasy for those longing to dress up again.

“Cowboys” furthers the album aesthetic of a “troubled paradise” which explores the difficulties of an unhappy relationship and its eventual dissolution. Slayyyter’s campy, pun-filled lyrics never detract from the seriousness of the themes of the track. They provide a lighter, catchy atmosphere to couple with the truly impactful themes and unique imagery on each single so far.

Slayyyter is one of the most brazen faces in pop music, with her bold aesthetic and relentlessly catchy production.  She grew up obsessed with Y2K icons like Britney Spears, Lindsey Lohan, and Lady Gaga. She went to the University of Missouri for a few years, but quickly dropped out to pursue her music career. She released her debut single “BFF” with underground glitz-pop phantom Ayesha Erotica which she wrote in between shifts as a receptionist at a hair salon. The track blew up across the internet because of its hard-hitting production, glossy aesthetic, and bragging lyrics. Slayyyter followed this release with “Daddy AF,” an electric track with sexually charged lyrics and crashing production. She has worked with industry giants like Kim Petras and Charli XCX on “Click (No Boys Remix)” and her track “Mine” was recently selected by Lady Gaga herself to be featured on her Women of Choice Playlist for Apple Music.

Troubled Paradise is the second studio album from Slayyyter and will be released on June 11th. The first singles “Throatzilla,” “Self Destruct” featuring Wuki, and “Troubled Paradise” have already been huge hits, particularly the eponymous single which was an incredible bop released in early 2021. Stay tuned for more releases from Slayyyter!
