Star in the making Taylor Colson channeled all the feelings of isolation into her newest single, “Hurt Me”. Telling the tale of love, loss, and longing – she sings about the difficulty of moving forward, and how sometimes feeling heartbreak is better than feeling nothing at all. Her intoxicating vocals paired with the dramatic and intense music make the track cinematic in its nature – it’s the kind of song you see cloaking memorable scenes in TV shows like The Vampire Diaries and Lucifer, or even films like the 50 Shades Series.
The haunting track is accompanied by an incredible music video that Taylor filmed herself using the Photo Booth app on her MacBook. The rose-tinted visuals show Colson singing in a bare room, which acts as a metaphor within the context of the song. The track was co-written by Halsey collaborator Dylan Jackson Scott and produced by Scott and Charlie Park [lovelytheband] at Suburban Soul Studios in Los Angeles.
Explaining the track, Taylor shares, “‘Hurt Me’ is about wanting to feel heartbreak for the first time because of the guilt you feel for not loving someone anymore and having to cause them pain and suffering when it’s time to leave. You feel like you owe them restitution for what you’ve done. The guilt can eat you alive, leading you to emptiness and despair. There’s a part of you that wants to know what it feels like to be in great pain. Relationship to relationship, whether we like it or not, we take the broken pieces with us. My collaborator Dylan said it best – ‘We’re all on a romantically induced, psychological Ferris wheel.’”
Taylor started performing at only five years old when she enrolled in an acting class and quickly fell in love with performing. Her love of performing gave way to a love of musical theater, and she began singing as a pre-teen and eventually took part in full performances as a teenager. Her influences growing up ranged from artists like Whitney Houston, Cher, and Barbara Streisand, to Freddie Mercury.
She began gathering a following on YouTube as she started posting videos of cover songs that received a ton of praise. Those videos paved the way for her to eventually open several east coast gigs for blackbear. Once she moved to Los Angeles in 2017, she connected with Dylan Jackson Scott through mutual friends. In November 2019, Taylor played her first solo shows in Europe, handpicked to open for lovelytheband by Mitchy Collins. Once things begin to open back up safely, Taylor will be doing a limited run of residency shows in Los Angeles in anticipation of a national tour in the first quarter of 2021.
