Singer-songwriter, Tessa Violet, has teamed up with the indie-pop band, MisterWives, for their brand new single “Bored” – alongside the single is a new music video inspired by quarantine that features clips of fans coping with this new way of life at home. 

“Working on this collab with MisterWives got me thinking about why it’s so inspiring to me to see someone like Mandy killing it in the alternative space. I think as women in rock sometimes it feels like we’re ‘alt-alt’ — just a little bit outside of what’s typically thought of as alternative. Having Mandy (and the amazing horn section of MisterWives) join me on this track feels like a celebration of that feeling of being a little bit different! I hope when my young fans hear us together, it lights something up in them. Sometimes all it takes is seeing someone who looks like you doing a thing to inspire you,” Tessa explained on the inspiration behind the front-women collaboration, lifted from Tessa’s debut album Bad Ideas which is currently seeing adds at alt-radio.

“I’ve been hooked on Tessa Violet since my friend introduced me to her music and getting the chance to have her tour with us last December (remember touring?!?!) was an absolute dream. I always try to bring out women on the road since it is a complete boys club and help grow what I like to call ‘Sistourhood,’ so getting to see her completely tear up the stage so effortlessly with her spunky personality and hair as vibrant as her sound sucked me in the whole set. So much so that I was then scrambling to get ready for my own set because that allotted time is usually for warmups and getting ready! Needless to say, when Tessa asked me to sing on ‘Bored’ (the quarantine anthem she didn’t realize she wrote before the world got flipped upside down) I immediately was in. Getting to be on this song with her was as fun as when Tessa and I went to Disney together (remember amusement parks?!?)” Mandy Lee from MisterWives added. 

The single captures the feelings of most people these days: bored, frustrated, and a slight feeling of FOMO. The track is given life with a complex and catchy beat with a production to match, along with passionate vocals that are dripping with emotion, Tessa’s tone is mesmerizing and smooth. “Bored”incorporates the vexation towards the boredom of being stuck in the same place causing self-doubt, and the feeling of loneliness with lyrics like “I’m bored of being alone…bored of these thoughts inside my head.” Although the message may sound a bit depressing, Tessa Violet and MisterWives managed to make it into an upbeat and dance-worthy gem. 

“Bored” follows last week’s release of Tessa’s collaboration with Vancouver-based trio daysormay, featuring on their new single, “Role Model.” This is the first single off the band’s upcoming EP, said to be released later this year via TAG Music, where Tessa is signed to.
