Singer-songwriter Tessa Violet has released the official video for her latest single “Bored,” from her 2019 debut album Bad Ideas. Conceived and filmed to project feelings of loneliness Tessa was feeling at the time, twists of fate now give the video’s theme a feeling that’s too close to home during the current times of self-isolation in the midst of the global crisis. Filmed at the YouTube Space and directed by Jade Ehlers, Tessa describes,

I wrote ‘Bored’ at a time when I was feeling extremely isolated. I was working from home and having trouble sleeping, struggling to build community or find things to do out of the house. Not to be super dark but I dreaded going to sleep because I was dreading facing another day. When my director Jade and I wrote the treatment for the video a few months back, I wanted to make a video that reflected that sense of uneasiness and dread, feeling like there’s no way out. Fast forward to now and it’s pretty wild this release coincides with a worldwide self-isolation. Maybe it will comfort you, maybe it will drive you crazier. Either way, we’re in this together.”

The video for “Bored” by Tessa Violet is set in a 90s-feel, colorful bedroom. The visual consists of Tessa partaking in independent activities besides her computer such as chess, playing the keyboard, reading a book, applying make-up, and more, before she breaks out her funky dance moves. She ultimately loses her mind as she distances herself from her computer, and starts to see things around her room – maybe something a lot of people can relate to these days. By the end of the video, Tessa is dressed in an orange jumpsuit, as if to tell her audience that she is a prisoner of her own mind — emphasized by scenes of her destroying things in the room.

Considering the current status of the pandemic, Tessa also debuted the virtual Something To Look Forward To tour from her bedroom, which she streams live on YouTube. An independent artist blazing a path of her own, Tessa’s meteoric rise culminated with the fall 2019 release of her debut album, Bad Ideas, rounding out a breakout year for the rising artist. The sole songwriter on all but one of the album’s tracks, the project received Spotify’s Times Square billboard and has seen widespread success with hit single “Crush” amassing 100MM+ aggregate streams alone and earning a Genius ‘Verified.’

Along with the follow-up single “Bad Ideas,” Billboard declared both songs “confident and breezy additions to the indie-pop fold.” Later single “I Like (the idea of) You” was dubbed “a guitar-driven, retro-tinged jam” by MTV News, while The FADER proclaimed that on “Games,” “Violet levels up and proves that her quirky pop stride is far from a fluke.”
