The Attire, a pop duo out of Los Angeles, have released the video for “Naked,” a song they teased last week in a TikTok video that has already surpassed 1.5 million views. The track transforms from a piano ballad into a bass-laden confrontation, and honestly, it couldn’t be more well done.
Keys that sound like they belong on the next Adele radio hit open the track before vocalist Gregory Shilling asks his ex if they feel OK without him around. He even opens up about how his ex drove for hours to try to save their relationship, but it doesn’t help — because what’s meant to end will do so. In the pre-chorus, subtle synths and atmospheric synths join before vanishing in the chorus, leaving Shilling’s beautiful falsetto and a booming bass from Stephen Santa Teresa to pick up the pieces. Shilling comes to terms with the fact that his former partner only wanted him for sex, not to go through the tribulations of life together, like he wanted. The track doesn’t end with a plan on bouncing back from it, just a sad realization of what his former partner truly wanted — a story most people know all too well.
The video opens with Shilling at the piano, about to pour his heart into song. Soft blues and pinks highlight his face as he cathartically sings his reminiscence and stares into the camera. He starts walking down the hall, with Teresa and his bass lingering right behind, and goes to sit on his bed to lament even harder. He stares at a disco ball on his couch before going back to the piano — this time to actually have fun while performing.
Of the song, the band shares: “This pop-soul record is as sad as it is sexy. The lyrics paint the lament of unrequited love, and it discusses the pain of someone only loving you for the sex.”
“Naked” is the follow-up to “Something In The Water,” “Kool Aid” and “Push It 2 The Limit,” all of which are also made for the dance floor and have been slowly but steadily earning thousands of streams. Though a lot of songs have been earning their time in the limelight thanks to TikTok, this has been one of the most deserving by far. If you want to rant about how toxic your ex was, turn up “Naked,” and let The Attire‘s song wash your pain away.
