The Relentless, a band of veteran rock stars and notable film figures from the new Amazon Prime series Paradise City, have released a cover of BoySetsFire’s “Rookie” with an accompanying video. The track just might be better than the original, as Palaye Royale’s Remington Leith furnishes a gritty voice that will win over the attention and hearts of rock lovers.

Though Andy Biersack stars as the show’s frontman, Johnny Faust, behind his lips are vocals that aren’t his but still suit him exceptionally well. He lip synchs Leith’s recognizable, granular voice, which is pushed forward from guitars that instantly burst from the seams from the second you press play. Those enticing and roaring guitars — thanks to Asking Alexandria’s Ben Bruce and Booboo Stewart, who play Leo Donovan and Vic Lakota, respectively — completely take over the first 50 seconds before Faust rips the atmosphere to shreds with his coarse yet lovable pipes. Faust doesn’t hold back, expressing his intense anger at the world and a friend who betrayed him, and he gives them one brutal punch — letting them know he used to act childish like them, but he’s grown into the full-fledged confident man he is now. Bella Thorne, who plays Lily Mayflower, goes ham with a bass solo, topping off a song that’s already overflowing with gift after gift.

The video opens with the band huddled up and Lakota admitting he’s so glad to be with his bandmates on stage — because that’s where he feels the most at home. As the band hops onto stage, Faust holds Mayflower back to tell her he’s delighted to get the opportunity to perform with her again, and she agrees. As beams of pink and orange flash over the stage and crowd, Fault jumps to his microphone before everyone in sight explodes into a fury of angsty energy. Attendees start crowdsurfing before clips — seemingly from the series — emerge that show both fear and anger from unnamed individuals who may be key players in the show. The track ends with Faust screaming while lying on the ground and the crowd applauding endlessly.

This release follows the band’s last endeavor: a cover of Smashing Pumpkins’ “Disarm.” Paradise City, which launched March 25, has a star-studded cast, including the aforementioned names and the late Cameron Boyce, who looks up to Faust in the series. The show is set to be one of the best to come out of the streaming service, and it’s a must-watch for music and TV lovers alike.
