It’s finally here, the long-awaited music video for The Veronicas’ single “Biting My Tongue” has officially dropped! Earlier this month the Australian pop duo release their first track of the year [and subsequently the featured single off their upcoming album, Human] – “Biting My Tongue”. This track comes after last year’s release of their wildly praised single, “Think Of Me” – tackling opposite themes to boot.
When “Biting My Tongue” was first released, it was accompanied by a teaser video for a seemingly dramatic music video that just so happened to be directed by the sisters themselves – Lisa and Jessica Origliasso. Today we get answers to all the intensity that was featured. In a modern-day take of the tale of Romeo & Juliet, we see the family of our beloved twins beauties feud against another less extravagant family that houses its own set of eye-catching twins – actors/models/musicians Bud and Aidan Brennan Williams.
With the narrative of forbidden love escalating the themes of the track, viewers are instantly sucked into a world full of love, hate, passion and betrayal. Lisa takes on the role of our damned Juliet, creating a bond in secret on one end while being slightly more welcomed by those around her Romeo counterpart – that is until our doomed Lisa’s family taking it upon themselves to ensure this love story ceases to a halt. Not even being able to lean on her identical half as a beacon of support – Lisa clings harder to her blonde paramour. But with disaster looming in the air, our star crossed lovers may suffer the same fate as that of the infamous Romeo & Juliet.
The music video for “Biting My Tongue” becomes The Veronicas‘ directorial debut. “Stepping into the role as directors on ‘Biting My Tongue’ came as a very natural progression as we have always taken the reins on all aspects of our creativity,” explains Jess and Lisa. “Having always been heavily involved with the conception and creation of all our music videos, allowing ourselves that full creative control is where we feel most fulfilled and at home. We absolutely live for it. We’ve wanted to work with Bud and Aidan Brennan Williams for some time since connecting with them online and knew this was the perfect opportunity. They are musicians themselves, with their band We Are One. Their charisma is captivating to watch onscreen and being twins we all have an intrinsic bond in knowing how to work together in a way only twins know how. Taking on the role as directors gave us a chance to add another level to the character development that we love about creating music videos. When we found Aidan and Bud, we were thrilled to create a concept that would bring to our fans the chemistry and closeness of twinship. It gives a deep and intense view of the love and threat of that bond.”
The theatrics displayed throughout the music video bare such raw emotion and talent of all of those involved. Over the years we have watched The Veronicas evolve from angst-ridden young adults to powerhouses taking the industry by storm. Conceptualizing their talents into such an ambitious release, The Veronicas have not been garnering the proper worldwide recognition they so justly deserve – but hopefully that all changes with the release of their first album in 6 years! “Biting My Tongue” is the first official single off their upcoming album, Human. There’s still no official word on when Human will drop but we’ll be sitting anxiously awaiting the next single.
