This Wild Life has shared their hauntingly stunning new single and video, “Nothing Hurts Like Love For The First Time.” The video follows the duo playing the song in the reflection of soft purple light. The track showcases their angelic harmonies above a silky smooth melody — a resounding chord build in the chorus, and a simple, melancholy piano line to guide you through. Ripe with heartbreak, the lyrics take listeners on a nostalgic trip as they remember their first love, and how it felt when it all went wrong. “Thought I’d let you know that everything went cold / The day you chose to let me go / Thought I’d let you know through everything we’ve been through / I feel you still, and I always will.”
In a year that has been nothing short of an emotional roller coaster, nothing is stopping This Wild Life. “After six years and three albums with the wonderful Epitaph Records, we’ve decided to step out on our own and begin the journey of independently producing and releasing our own music,” shares Kevin Jordan. “Our first offering looks back at love and loss for the very first time and the callous that grows after. This next chapter is not only betting on ourselves, but betting on the love and support of our fans. To continue sharing our passion with you is a gift that Anthony and I are exceedingly grateful for.”
To celebrate the release, This Wild Life hosted a premiere for the new music video for “Nothing Hurts Like Love For The First Time” on YouTube Friday at 5pm ET / 2pm PT. Fans were able to join in and chat with the band about their new single, what else they’ve been working on, and more.
This Wild Life is a two piece acoustic band, made up of Kevin Jordan and Anthony Del Grosso —two drummers. Raised on opposite ends of the country, their musical journeys were strikingly similar, and both found inspiration in artists ranging from Blink-182 and Dashboard Confessional, to Earth Wind & Fire, and Snoop Dogg. They met working at a guitar store, and eventually started a band together, performing together at local venues until they eventually flew out to meet Aaron Marsh and make a full length acoustic record. Soon after, they got a Facebook Message from the owner of Epitaph Records saying he loved the band. The record, Clouded, led the band to spend the next two years in the van traveling the world, performing in back to back Warped Tours, opening for scene icons like Pierce the Veil, Dashboard Confessional, and New Found Glory. 2016 brought them back to the studio where they would create Low Tides, and singles “Catie Rae,” “Westside,” “Headfirst” and “Hold You Here.”
Of their music, the band explains, “These songs are yours as much as they are ours. Listen to it loud with the windows down, on Sunday mornings when you’re cleaning up around the apartment, or throw on some headphones and find some comfort in it’s escape.”
