We Were Sharks are back with their first single since 2018. They take a look at the workings of the digital age with their latest release, a brand new single and music video, “Shameless.” The surreal video follows the band sitting at a table, playing, singing, dancing, drinking and shamelessly having fun with it. The lyrics discuss the selfies, hashtags, and posts everyone is addicted to as they strive to get attention and feel any sort of connection. Through a high-energy sound, they tackle the issue of feeling like an imposter on social media because we crave approval and praise.
Frontman, Randy Frobel shares, “‘Shameless’ is a hard look at how this generation looks for instant gratification and how we are willing to do anything for a quick ‘like.’ ‘Shameless’ is about how people are willing to sell their souls for 15 minutes of fame.”
We Were Sharks are a breath of fresh air in the pop-punk scene. They’re not afraid to get real, but they also stray from the serious, heavy, and emotional topics we’ve grown accustomed to from the genre. Thriving on wit, honesty, and genuinely having a good time in both their videos and performances, its easy to fall in love with their infectious energy — especially as it’s so clear that they’re having a good time performing.
Since 2011, We Were Sharks have dedicated their time to creating their signature catchy vocal hooks and jam-worthy guitar riffs. The passionate and driven six-man band gained national acclaim after their debut LP release Highways in 2012, and followed with 2015’s Not A Chance EP. The album’s standout single, “Bridge Burner” soon amassed over 1 million plays on Spotify.
The Canadian rockers are based in Ottawa, and have proven themselves to be a force in the Canadian alternative music scene. We Were Sharks have a knack for blending melodic harmony with powerful dissonance as they continue to produce and evolve their unique and exciting sound. With years of experience under their belt to guide them, the sky’s the limit as We Were Sharks move forward and continue to grow and create.
