Alt-pop band Wilmah has released lively visuals for their new single “Television” — catchy tune, featuring nostalgic themes over a poppy beat. Showcasing lyrics like, Like television/God damn I miss it/Like television/Memories they love to lie,” the track elaborates on the rose-tinted memories of a failed relationship.

Featuring vocalist and guitarist Matt Connolly alongside bassist Will O’Connor starring in shows like Friends and That 70’s Show, the visuals compare the reality of memories to the positive portrayal of life in sitcoms. The video begins with Connolly and O’Connor spending a lazy day stoned on the couch watching Friends. Cutting between them starring in the shows to them jamming out in their living room. The video itself is nostalgic, feeling like a lazy Sunday afternoon in your 20s.

Wilmah spoke on the video, “It feels incredible to have such an enthusiastic team behind us who can bring our vision to life in a way that portrays the message of the song in a new and fun way. We can’t wait to share it with the rest of the world”

Television” follows the release of their socially necessary single, “Welcome to America.” A hard-hitting, rock track, with lyrics that question different injustices in America. Penning lines like Where else ya gonna go/Greatest place on the globe,”  the duo pokes fun at the idea of America being labeled the best place on Earth. The song continues on, touching on issues of homophobia, gun violence, and police brutality. With visuals are equally as impactful, Connolly and O’Connor are featured adorned in jumpsuits in front of the American flag. Throughout the video there are various clips of various human rights issues along with the polarity felt through America. A strong influence for the band, the impact of Rage Against the Machine can be felt in the lyrics.

Though different from ˆWelcome to America,” “Television,” continues to show off their impressive lyricism. Hailing from Buffalo, New York, Connolly and O’Connor played in a band together in middle school, eventually becoming the talented duo they are today.

By blending genres, Wilmah manages to create a perfect balance of music that features deeper, moving lines fused with upbeat songs, creating a beautiful contradiction. While pulling influence from bands like previously mentioned Rage Against the Machine, to the Brooklyn hip-hop trio, The Beastie Boys, Wilmah manages to combine various genres seamlessly. With plans to release a light, pop EP, Wilmah is a band you surely won’t want to miss.
