An aesthetic that matches the artists’ chaotic charisma

YUNGBLUD Strawberry Lipstick music video review

Alternative rock/hip-hop artist and songwriter YUNGBLUD recently released a brand new song Strawberry Lipstick”, via Locomotion/Interscope Records. The explosive new single dropped with a crazy energetic music video – and becomes the lasted single lifted from the singer/songwriter/actor/multi-instrumentalist’s sophomore album due out later this year.

The smitten pop-punk prince belts about a love that has got him wrapped around their finger. She holds all the power in her fingertips / She’s gonna suck on my strawberry lipstick / She’s gonna taste my body with her fingertips / I cannot breathe,”  he sings. The accompanying outrageous video, directed by Christian Breslauer [Roddy Ricch, Tory Lanez, Marshmello], features YUNGBLUD, his bandmates, and LA-based singer/songwriter Jesse Jo Stark to add to the eye-catching aesthetic. The video’s aesthetic perfectly matches YUNGBLUD’s chaotic energy, where it takes place in a series of eccentric scenes: throwing hands in a boxing ring, showing off dance moves in his custom Union Jack dress, relaxing in a strawberry-filled bathtub with Stark who is a captivating presence in the visual.

The video was co-produced by YUNGBLUD himself, along with long-time collaborators Chris Greatti [Poppy, Grimes] and Zakk Cervini [Bishop Briggs, Machine Gun Kelly] – Strawberry Lipstick  is a deliciously twisted love song driven by the Yorkshire native’s raspy vocals and an energy that is larger than life. With its insane guitar riffs and glam-rock glow, the incredibly catchy and rock-heavy tune also flaunts the 22-year old’s gender-bending inclination.

Insanely creative in all walks of unique and colorful ways, YUNGBLUD has also recently announced the release of his new graphic novel The Twisted Tales of the Ritalin Club Volume 2: Weird Times at Quarry Banks University. This is the sequel to The Twisted Tales of the Ritalin Club [his 2019 debut as a graphic novelist], where the comic follows the artist and his friends with superpowers as they journey college life and the whole package: drugs, sex, parties, relationship drama, etc – ultimately finding themselves caught in a trap that could potentially cost them their lives. Due out via Z2 Comics this November, Weird Times at Quarry Banks University is now available for preorder in multiple editions.
