Dashboard Confessional Shocks Fans By Dropping ‘Now Is Then Is Now’ | Listen Now

The three album collection features re-imagined versions of ‘A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar,’ ‘Dusk and Summer,’ and ‘Alter the Ending.’

Just in case you mixed the big news on Friday, legendary emo act Dashboard Confessional without warning released a three album collection entitled Now Is Then Is Now. This collection of albums features re-imagined versions of A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar (originally released August 12, 2003), Dusk and Summer (originally released June 27, 2006) and Alter the Ending (originally released November 10, 2009). Stemming from a period of reflection following the release of 2018’s Crooked Shadows, singer/songwriter Chris Carrabba created Now Is Then Is Now in order to honour and reinvent the most iconic era of his career.

What makes these three re-imagined albums truly special is that in the two decades since Carrabba took on the moniker of Dashboard Confessional, the act has slowly brought on more members to go from a one-man acoustic effort, to a fully fledged rock band. While for Carrabba, having songs fully realized with complete instrumentation has been a dream, it left him wondering as to how his most influential albums would have sounded had it still been just him. From that thought Now Is Then Is Now was born– a reimagining of Carrabba’s career highlights that simplifies Dashboard Confessional into its most earnest and purest form.

The changes implemented vary from song to album: some lyrically, some structurally, all to compare memories of those eras to more modern personal growth. “I found the original handwritten lyrics to Dusk and Alter before there was any critiques leveled at them. I looked at them and those were some of my best lyrics I’ve written. I should have known that and trusted myself. I was able to correct a mistake…” The end result is an effort sure to please any longtime fan, and one that in a way updates the band to resonate with countless generations.

Now Is Then Is Now is available to stream HERE. All tracks were produced by Shannon McArthur, with the exception of “Slow Decay” (Danny LaCouture) and “Carve Your Heart Out Yourself” (Jonathan Michael Clark with Shannon McArthur).

Dashboard Confessional will be performing at various festivals throughout the United States this Summer before embarking on a special acoustic tour across the UK this Fall. A full list of dates can be found below.
