Avery Lynch Holding My Own HandYou might remember the name Avery Lynch from last week’s TikTok Tuesday, but you’ll definitely be seeing more of her on your social media timelines. The 21-year-old Boston native is a student at Berklee College of Music, where she is well on her way to becoming the next big thing. Avery has risen in the TikTok scene with her heavenly voice and emotionally driven lyrics.

Both a singer and a songwriter, Avery went viral after posting a cover of Dua Lipa’s Don’t Start Nowand now she’s gained over 100K monthly listeners on Spotify. Soon after, she went viral again with an original song she wrote, I Put You First (& You Did Too). While the track was originally a breakup ballad sung on the piano, she and her producer [fellow Berklee student, Davin Kingston] decided to add some tempo and boost the energy level, creating a Billie-Eilish-esque production to back her soul-stirring lyrics. On July 24th, she released another track, Holding My Own Hand, an empowering song with pop elements and a message of self-love.

Avery’s popularity on TikTok has continued to grow with her unique method of writing: she creates songs inspired by her fans’ comments. Some of her most popular works using this method were responses to comments asking for songs that had a theme around the right person / wrong time, the struggle of long-distance, commitment issues, and many more. One of her fan favorites, which garnered over 3 million views with fans begging for a full version, came from a comment that asked, can you write one about falling out of love with someone and not knowing how to leave them because they’re really great? With lyrics showcasing a rawness, intimacy, and sagacity well beyond her age, Avery Lynch is just getting started.

PTM: How did you develop your style and who are your biggest influences?

AL: I didn’t really think about developing a style or having a style in general it’s all kinda been just happening as I go along!

PTM: How has quarantine changed, helped, or hindered your creative process?

AL: During quarantine I’ve written more music than I ever have before and that’s when all of my recording/TikTok started too! Quarantine was kinda a blessing in disguise for my music.

PTM: Where did your inspiration come from to write tracks based on your fans’ comments?

AL: I wrote my own songs from my own experience and continued to post them and as I did that one person commented a request (which was the first comment response video I did) and from then on I get thousands of them on each video haha.

PTM: Fans absolutely love that you create songs inspired by their comments – do you have any plans to release the full versions of them?

AL: Yes, I will probably be releasing songs that are inspired by comments, but my favorites are the ones that I wrote without comments in mind (even tho some of them are posted with comments). Sometimes I write songs and then find a comment that’ll fit (for example my song “All I Need” that I posted on TikTok about a week ago). I wrote that from my own feelings and found a comment that matched!

PTM: Do you have a favorite ‘fan comment inspired’ song that you’ve created?

AL: My favorite fan comment inspired song is “Love Me Nicely” 🙂

PTM: You’ve been able to capitalize on your rising success on TikTok – Do you have plans to extend your social media platform presence in the event TikTok takes a turn like Vine?

AL: If TikTok ends I’ll use Instagram Reels and continue there! Hopefully my following on TikTok will transfer over to Instagram a little bit (it’s doing that but very slowly haha).

PTM: How do you think TikTok challenged you to become a better creator and musical act?

AL: I think TikTok has instead of challenging me just gave me a platform and inspiration to do what I do best. I feel like before TikTok was when I was most challenged but now I have a whole lot of people who support me and want me to create more and use their own situations as inspiration and it’s really cool!

PTM: If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be?

AL: Absolutely hands down JP Saxe, Lennon Stella, and Julia Michaels!

PTM: Do you have any set goals or aspirations for your music career?

AL: I actually don’t have any specific goals with my music career. I’ve done all of this for fun so far and I’m continuing to do it for fun haha. I don’t even have any plans after my EP comes out but I’m not stopping. I’ve been winging it so far and I’m gonna continue to do that!

PTM: What do you hope people gain from your work and talents?

AL: I hope the music I release is music that people enjoy and I hope my songs that I post on tiktok help people get their feelings out or feel understood.

PTM: Do you have anything else you’d like to add or anything you want your fans to know?

AL: I guess that I just absolutely love what I’m doing and I’m too happy and stubborn to let anyone change the way I write/the music I put out. I just wanna have fun with it and kinda do whatever the hell I want hahahah!
