For those of you who are not familiar with Kiko King & creativemaze, they are a duo based out of Berlin. The group’s work is described as “dark hard hitting tracks and soft melodic harmonies mixed with uplifting honest lyrics and various fictional characters.”
creativemaze (yes, the lowercase c is on purpose) is a trained audio engineer and producer who offers a perfect sonic groundwork for Kiko King, blowing away the listener with his feel for broad and atmospheric soundscapes. creativemaze’s music is a healthy mix of imagination and perfectionism. His productions move freely through the wide variety of genres, always maintaining his unique musical fingerprint.
Here at the Play Too Much headquarters, we had the pleasure of watching the brilliant new space-age video from the duo, and even got to chat with Mr. King himself to find out where he draws his influences from.
P2M: First off congratulations on the tour, how has it been?
KK: Oh thanks. It’s been Great, the energy is so great every night.
P2M: So what would you say your biggest influences have been?
KK: Oh man, everything. I am influenced by whatever I like, you know? If I like something, I like it, I’m influenced by it, classical music, rock & roll, everything.
P2M: Do you remember your first musical experience?
KK: Yeah. My mom. She used to make me sing in the church choir. I must’ve been 5 years old, and I remember I really didn’t want to do it (laughs).
P2M: What does she think of your music now that it’s starting to get out there in the world?
KK: She loves it. She’s living in DC. It’s actually been 11 years since I’ve seen her. So it was really nice to see her again. She’s proud. See, I was born in Germany and moved to LA, and eventually I moved back to Germany.
P2M: Whoa. Awesome. With all the success and traveling you’re doing now, what comes next for Kiko King and creativemaze?
KK: Oh man, we’re going to keep going. We’ve got a European tour in November, so look out for that. Also, we encourage everyone to stay in touch with us, check out our facebook page and keep supporting.
