Beartooth have dropped their latest single, “Hell Of It,” which will appear on the band’s incoming fourth album, Below, due out June 25 via Red Bull Records. The five-piece have already cemented their spot on the list of legendary hardcore bands, but they’re prolonging their reign at the top with the infectious fury of this track.
Zero time is wasted in this track, as frontman Caleb Shomo grabs the listener by the throat within one second and shakes them to life. Backed by blistering guitars, he screams his told you so’s, always knowing in the back of his mind that his demons would return for him. All hell breaks loose after the intro with angst galore and drums so powerful that it’s shocking a hole isn’t ripped right through them. Shomo asks his demons to take everything that he is because he’s tired of forcing himself to go through days where he does nothing of substance — literally saying “I barely exist.”
He brilliantly echoes his own heart-wrenching argument to his demons in the chorus, incessantly persuading them to free him of this nonstop pain. In the following verse, he acknowledges he finally senses a trace of feeling in his body, reminding him he’s somehow still alive. The breakdown finds the demons entering his soul and a roar of satisfaction before the track ends with one final, relieved scream.
Of the track, Shomo shares: “‘Hell Of It’ is one of my favorites on the album. It’s meant to try and melt as much face as possible. This song was really important for discovering the guitar tone for the album and the use of pedals to expand on parts. The breakdown in this might be my favorite of all.”
The release of “Hell Of It” follows Beartooth’s two-part gift to fans last month of “Devastation” and the video for “The Past Is Dead.” Not too long after the album’s June release, Beartooth is set to perform on Sept. 12 at the Inkcarceration Music & Tattoo Festival in Mansfield, Ohio. The band is sure to the rock the house upon their return to the stage, having missed the days where they once toured with Bring Me The Horizon, Architects, Slipknot and A Day To Remember. While you wait for what is bound to be one of the best albums of the year via Beartooth, keep streaming “Hell Of It,” and think about when you can finally be able to see them in person soon.
