On Sunday night, Aminé teased a new song with Young Thug in a tweet. By Monday morning, the world got another fire single since the release of his hit, “Shimmy”. While fans were still flying high on his new collab with Young Thug in “Compensating” – Aminé announced his third studio album release for August 7 under the title, Limbo.
“Compensating” showcases Aminé and Young Thug the vocal range in these young rappers – they are not all just talk and flow, they have those raw skills people always claim rap artists never have. The chorus of the song breaks into the tail of someone who falls into a depression and in order to find their way out they start to overcompensate for a brief moment of joy. Aminé reminisces on an old flame and the negative affects her fake friends had on him and his relationship – “You got some fake friends, they just toe lines (Yeah), Text, I reply, baby, ’til my phone die (Yeah)”. Meanwhile, Young Thug highlights his choices in opting to spend and earn verses deal with the headaches attached to relationships.
After seeing much success in his debut album, Good for You, [topping Billboard at #17] as well as his sophomore release, ONEPOINTFIVE [topping Billboard at #23] – it should come as no surprise that “Compensating” has already garnered over 542 thousand views on YouTube in just 2 days. With numbers like that, it would be fair to say this track may just supersede the place of his first hit single, “Caroline” which topped Billboard’s Hot 100 at #11.
The visualizer that was released alongside the track features Young Thug and Aminé each taking turns walking across the screen in a continuous loop with blank stares that never quite meet the gaze of the camera head-on. Their only companion is a green balloon head with the same empty expression that too often stares down the viewer for an uncomfortably long time.
