Run River North’s newest single, “Lonely Weather,” can cure your seasonal depression, with an upbeat pop melody and catchy vocals. Despite the lyrics talking about loneliness, the song is hopeful, sharp, and honest. Their traditional indie vocals pair perfectly in an unlikely combo with Christmas bells and twinkling background vocals. The title is a call back to their last tour, Lonely Weather, Favorite Sweater.
“We wrote ‘Lonely Weather’ with Nick Anderson from The Wrecks and he’s from Buffalo, New York. And as SoCal local natives, we were educated on how real seasonal depression can be in,” shares Alex Hwang. “Regardless, whether you’re from upstate New York or sunny southern California, change is always coming and the struggle to endure and face these changes can feel a lot like lonely weather.”
He continues, “This song is about finding your favorite sweater during those weird and lonely seasons and that you have to go through it in order to get through it.”
Run River North has also announced their forthcoming album Creatures In Your Head. The album features previously released singles, “One For Me,” “Hummingbird,” “Cemetery,” “Pretty Lies,” and “Spiders,” will be hitting streaming platforms on February 12th, 2021.
Run River North began as Monsters Calling Home. They even tried to change their name back! They considered going back to recording everything themselves and back to selling their songs on blank CDs in homemade paper sleeves. Over the last two years, Run River North went back to the future with their albums Monsters Calling Home: Vol. 1, 2 & 3.
Eventually, they decided to move forward instead. Sometimes, they still record songs themselves, but they’ve found that there’s more story up the river, and an abundance of friends and collaborators that helped get them where they needed to be, including producers Joe Chiccarelli [Morrissey, Broken Social Scene], Miro Mackie [Mallrat, Cold War Kids, St. Vincent], Dave Sitek of TV on the Radio, Hannah Hooper and Christian Zucconi of Grouplove, Derek Furhmann, Sir Sly, Nick Anderson of The Wrecks, and Chris Chu of Pop Etc, Vinyl Pinups.
And now, here they are in 2020 as an independent band with a sound that is all their own, with much more new music and excitement to come.
