Hailing from Pensacola, FL, Vagrants have unveiled their latest single, “Wither” amidst the release of their debut EP Separation. The explosive new track comes via Equal Vision Records and brings forth a solid representation of the group. Vagrants originally started as a four-piece ensemble with a bright future in the music industry, from a home state that has birthed so many punk and hardcore scene legends like – New Found Glory and Underoath. Their debut single, “Window Panes”, saw sizable success and launched plans for a follow-up EP. However, when their original lead singer revealed he would be taking a step back to serve out a jail sentence, the remaining members were left to regroup and determine the band’s fate. With a decent portion of the record already written, they decided to move forward and found new hope in vocalist, Dylan Knapp. Originally be sought after for his bass guitar skills, Knapp blew everyone away with his vocal intensity in both range and delivery.
Speaking on the new single, guitarist and vocalist, Jose DelRio shares, “It’s funny how it feels like sometimes art and music can predict the future. ‘Wither’ touches on feelings of isolation, “lonerism” and the vast spectrum of feelings anxiety and depression provide. I never thought when we wrote/recorded this song last year that just months later we’d be living in a world where literally everyone is experiencing those very emotions touched on in the lyrics. I hope this song can serve as a reminder to people that it’s not just them going through this!”
With a sound reminiscent of the early days of Underoath and moments of spoken word that seem to draw on inspiration from Rise Against – “Wither” becomes an easy addition to any playlist designed to get you pumped up or lost in your emotions. Their EP Separation speaks to a greater first step that Vagrants could have ever hoped for. They were forced by circumstance to grow and adapt to a new way of creating music while remaining true to their original sound. “Wither” seems to solidify the choices they made as a collective throughout their debut EP and aims to show what can be expected in the years to come for Vagrants.
