LISTEN+EVENT: Silverstein Release A Stripped Down Version Of “Infinite” + Announce A Drive-In Concert

Silverstein Inifinite Alternate Version

silverstein infinite alternative version This year post-hardcore legends, Silverstein, are celebrating their 20th anniversary as a collective with the release of their tenth full-length album – A Beautiful Place To Drown, out via UNFD. Despite having to postpone their originally planned tour, Silverstein has refused to let anything get in the way of 2020 being a year to make fans reflect and smile in the last 20 years. From creating their unique concert/documentary Quaranstein to delivering their Next Level Livestream event – Silverstein has been doing all they can to ensure fans that just because the world is on pause, doesn’t mean the music is.

In an effort to keep the celebration going, Silverstein has released an alternate version of A Beautiful Place To Drown’s stand out track, “Infinite” – recorded entirely during quarantine. The original version debuted back in January with an electric music video that featured Silverstein locked in a glass box, illuminated by brilliant purple lights. The intensifying drum line explodes as the chorus hits. With a killer feature from Aaron Gillespie [Underoath, The Almost] – “Infinite” quickly became a fan favorite.

Once quarantine hit and the world effectively shut down, people found themselves lost in their own thoughts. Going stir crazy locked inside, “Infinite” now held a different meaning – a more important one. Understanding the importance of their band [and their music] to their fans, Silverstein took on the task of completely reimagining the single as a completely stripped-down version of itself that amplifies the track’s raw emotion. Understanding these times of isolation can lead to sinking thoughts of depression, Silverstein asked their fans to leave them a voice message – talking about how they’re feeling during quarantine. With hundreds of voice messages left by fans from all around the world, voicing their experience with COVID through various walks of life, Silverstein created a collection of some of those messages, overlaid on the alternate version of “Infinite”.

silverstein drive in concertGuitarist, Paul Marc Rousseau, discussed the new version of “Infinite” and the song’s evolving meaning, saying, “’Infinite’ was born in the black hole of anxiety—unable to remember ‘normal,’ the fear of not knowing when the feeling will end, or if it will end at all. I think everyone has experienced that type of anxiety to some extent, and for me being locked down in the early stages of Covid-19 poured gas on the fire. Facets of anxiety that once felt difficult to name or truly pin down slowly became concrete, tangible things. The sadness I was experiencing was no longer abstract or personalized, it was something practically everyone on Earth was relating to in real time. As days became weeks and weeks became months, it was hard, if not impossible, to see any light at the end of the tunnel. I love the album version of ‘Infinite.’ It screams into the void. It captures the emotional and physical frustration, the anger of being trapped in an anxious loop. But as of late, I feel more sadness than anger, and I thought ‘Infinite’—which for months now has felt more relevant than I ever could have known—could be rearranged to feel more like I feel.”

With much of their discography focusing on mental health, “Infinite” hit deeper than any other recent release. “My mind’s running away a mile a minute, can’t shake it off/A free fall, I’d give anything to make it stop/How can I be an optimist when all this feels/Infinite.” There’s no one ‘right way’ to handle being locked away from the world for months, breaking down emotions to understand why things are happening. The voices that keep you up at night can become deafening, but in an effort to help counteract that, Silverstein has announced their first drive-in concert event. Scheduled to take place on September 25 at the Ancaster Fairgrounds in Ontario. The drive-in event offers a unique way to experience the music we all know and love – a way to reconnect with the music community we adore while ensuring everyone’s safety. Much like any drive-in concert, tickets are sold by the carload – with the venue offering different tiers of where you’ll be able to park and enjoy the show.

Speaking on finally getting to perform for their fans once again, Silverstein shared, “We are thrilled to announce a real LIVE concert that we are performing this month! This will be the first time we’ve taken the stage since March and we’re so excited. Live concerts are the backbone of our industry and especially our band, so this opportunity means a lot to us! We look forward to sharing it with you for one evening under the stars. Safety is our top priority which is why we’re using the drive-in format, keeping fans in their cars / spaced out. We will be on stage, and fans will be able to tune-in with their car’s FM radio. There will also be 2 x 40’ video screens beside the stage so you’ll have an even better view. See you there!”

Silverstein has developed from a young hardcore band leading the way of the Emo Movement, full of rules for themselves – to an established group of musicians who highlight their passion and their true selves in everything they produce. Tickets for their upcoming drive-in concert can be found below and while it’s not the cross country tour fans were hoping for this year, perhaps a few more drive-in events will be in Silverstein’s future.
