NEWS: LAU Announces Debut Album ‘BELIEVER’

LAU steps into synth-pop spotlight with her debut album, proving they are more than a session musician

Barcelona-based artist, LAU [a.k.a. Laura Fares] announced the release of her debut album Believer. LAU honed in on her musical craft with extensive experience as a session drummer and songwriter for other artists. After years of playing in the background, makes other’s music come alive — this synth-pop artist is ready to step into the forefront as she prepares to share new and more personal music. Readying herself to step into the spotlight of retro-wave music as a solo artist. The album comes out February 12, 2021 on Aztec Records.

LAU explores various synth-pop styles such as NewWave, synth-wave and electro-pop on new album. She takes elements of varying styles  to create her unique and engaging melodic hooks. Believer is LAU’s outlet that tells the story of her recent experiences. “The whole album talks about everything I went through last year, breaking up after nine years… the disappointments, the lies, the heartache, the sadness, that sense of being completely lost and having to find yourself again,” she itemizes.

Believer fixates on themes of loves lost and gain. The record houses the emotions of having to overcome heartbreak in tracks like “Stunning” — while her single “Recognize” sheds new light on the feelings of falling in love again. Of the album LAU shares, “The album served as therapy for me in a way, to write down all my emotions and sing my heart out. Even though it was a very painful process, I’m really glad I did it.”

Originally born in Argentina then relocating to the UK, Laura Fares now resides in Barcelona to start anew. In regards to starting her solo project as LAU, she says, “I think it was a natural step. Deep inside I always knew I was a songwriter, but my career as a session drummer and DJ/Producer took me to different places and ended up working with different artists [which I loved!]. Now I think it’s time for me to truly and openly express who I am, what I’m going through and what I have to say.”

Not only will you  can expect Believer and Believer (Deluxe) on vinyl, cassette and CD-R. The Deluxe version of the album includes remixes by some of the top producers in the genre like Luke Million, Sunglasses Kid, Droid Bishop, Popcorn Kid, Maethelvin, Highway Superstar and newcomer talent Austin Apologue.

LAU looks forward to connecting with fans upon the return of live music. In the meantime, Believer arrives February 21, 2021.
