Iconic rock group, Motion City Soundtrack is giving its fans wardrobe a much-needed upgrade. As many music fans will tell you, they don’t shop at Macy’s and have barely stepped foot in a Hot Topic or PacSun over the last decade. Instead, they obtain the bulk of their clothes from concerts – everything from t-shirts, tanks, and hats to sweats, scarves, and jackets. However, since the global pandemic put an effective pause on live shows [and far too many’s respected income] – new merch was a slim option for most. Still, countless fans did all they could to support their favorite acts and the crews that help those bands run. Now, as things are beginning to open up and more people are in a position to enjoy a wave of fresh threads.
In honor of a nearly decade-old track’s first debut, Motion City Soundtrack is celebrating with a new tee, crewneck, and dad-cap. “Crooked Ways” was originally composed nearly ten years ago, is produced by none other than Mark Hoppus [Blink-182]. Nearly forgotten about, locked away in the ‘unreleased vault’ – “Crooked Ways” found its way out of the darkness and into the light with a little guidance from Twilight creator Stephenie Meyer.
Earlier this month, Stephenie spoke about all the music that was submitted when she was planning Twilight’s original silver screen release. Whether you grew up adoring her sparkly vampires or they are the bane of your existence – Twilight’s official soundtrack undoubtedly is one of the most solid cinematic music releases of the last ten years. From Mutemath and Linkin Park to Muse and multiple tracks from Paramore – Twilight as a movie may be under critical review but Twilight as a soundtrack was pure fire. Now, with the release of Meyer’s latest Midnight Sun, she has dubbed “Crooked Ways” THE Midnight Sun song.
Soaked with classic Motion City Soundtrack melodies, draped in the comforting vocals of Justin Pierre, “Crooked Ways” is the missing track from our 2010 playlist that features Dashboard Confessional and Jack’s Mannequin. Released on the heels of the band’s most successful tour ever, “Crooked Ways” is out now and can be streamed on your favorite streaming platforms including Spotify, Youtube, Apple Music, and Bandcamp. Speaking on their Twilight connection, Pierre shared, “That post was crazy. I remember fans telling me about her thanking us in the last book.”
In addition to new threads and a brilliant track, Motion City Soundtrack has announced its second collaboration with Legal Speed coffee roasters. The new batch of single-origin beans is limited to 200 bags, with all proceeds donated to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. You’ll be able to pick up a delicious bag and support a remarkable cause below.
Keeping the good times moving, Motion City Soundtrack is so much more than just 5 dudes who create killer tunes – they are a whole team of people who ensure MCS sound, look and run flawlessly. In an effort to help support their incredible crew, Motion City Soundtrack recently release the remaining copies of an exclusive 7′ that was available on tour earlier this year. The record features alternative versions of “Capital H” and “Mary Without Sound”. In buying this record you provide assistance to the band’s touring crew as well as raise money for Save Our Stages. A link to get your own copy of the record can be found linked below.
Since 1997 – with a small hiatus in between – Motion City Soundtrack have been delivering an extraordinary discography of music, unlike any other rock band we’ve ever seen. Their unique musical style provides an escape from reality while delivering relatable lyrics draped in underlying dark humor.
