Hubie Halloween is the latest film from Happy Madison Productions, staring none other than Adam Sandler as the title role of Hubie Doubois. The slapstick comedy follows Hubie as he attempts to keep the town safe on Halloween. However, Hubie is somewhat of a joke around the town, and is often the butt of everyone’s hijinx. However, when a real threat comes to Salem, it’s up to Hubie to protect the town.
This film is jam-packed with stars, including those who often appear in Sandler’s work including, Noah Schnapp, Kevin James, Steve Buschemi, and Karan Brar. While the original cast included Cameron Boyce, he tragically passed right before the movie was set to start shooting. Sandler and his team dedicated the movie to Boyce in a mini-eulogy at the end of the credits.
Hubie Halloween isn’t just a light-hearted Halloween comedy; it’s also setting some Netflix records. With the introduction of Netflix’s top ten list, viewers are now able to track what the hottest new Netflix release is. Since its introduction, it hasn’t seen many comedies stuck on the list for too long. However, Hubie Halloween is the first of its genre to stay on the Netflix top ten list for nine consecutive days.
Happy Madison has found a home for its films on Netflix’s platform and it doesn’t look like they’ll be going away anytime soon. Sandler first signed a contract with Netflix in 2014 for four film releases. In 2017, they re-upped for another four movies, the last of which to be Hubie Halloween. Due to the popularity of the recent Happy Madison films, another contract has been signed with Netflix for six more films.
The soundtrack for the film features mainly Halloween classics, including instrumentals from The Creature From the Black Lagoon. There are a few original instrumentals featured and live performances by some of the cast, but the majority of the film uses Halloween favorites. The family-friendly nature of the film lends well to the familiarity of the soundtrack. Children and parents watching the film will be able to identify with the majority of the tracks, making for a more connected viewing experience.
If you’re a fan of Happy Madison Productions or Adam Sandler, Hubie Halloween is a delight. It’s light-hearted and fun for the whole family. Plus, who wouldn’t love a soundtrack full of Halloween hits?
