Cultural phenomenon, Lucifer, has just dropped part 1 of its highly anticipated fifth season this past Friday. Originally premiering on the Fox Network back in 2016 – its unique plot and excellent casting made for a surefire hit. Lucifer follows the Devil himself [Tom Ellis] as he takes a break from overseeing Hell and retires to the city of angels – Los Angeles. Up against his angel brethren, Amenadiel [D.B. Woodside] who was sent by the big guy himself to send him back down to Hell, Lucifer indulges in his favorite things (women, wine and song), until a murder takes place outside of his upscale nightclub. For the first time in billions of years, the murder awakens something unfamiliar in Lucifer’s soul that is eerily similar to compassion and sympathy. After meeting the intriguing detective, Chloe Decker [Lauren German], he finds himself drawn to her and decides to extend his stay up on Earth – helping the detective solve murders and try to figure out why he can’t seem to unlock Chloe’s darkest desires. [Based on DC Comics character created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth, and Mike Dringenberg]
With ratings higher than anyone could have predicted during its first season, Fox not only renewed it for season 2 but did the unthinkable and give season 3 the green light as well. As fans cheered knowing they would have their favorite Devil here for at least the next 3 seasons, many feared this critically acclaimed show would face the inevitable Fox axe after that – and unfortunately, they were right. After just 55 episodes, incredible plot twists, and a heavenly fight that would go down in TV history- Lucifer received the boot from Fox leaving the show to end on the biggest cliff hanger everyone was waiting for. However, never underestimate the power of a fan base – cast, crew, and fans all demanded that another network save their fallen angel, and Netflix answered the call.
Soon after Netflix announced they would be saving everyone’s favorite Devil faced hottie – they added Lucifer to their streaming platform with two previously unreleased episodes for season 3. Fans rejoiced as Season 4 premiered on Netflix but were stunned when it would soon be revealed that Lucifer would only come back for one final season. Well, there was not a chance in hell that Lucifans would let this be the end. In an effort to appease fans, show creators revealed that Season 5 would come in two parts. When asking Lucifans what they truly desire the answer was clear – more! So, in a ‘the Devil made me do it’ manner – on June 23 of this year, it was announced that Lucifer would return for a sixth and final season, “like FINAL final.” With fans satisfied – for the moment – they geared up to fall deeper to the Devil’s beck and call.
With the first eight episodes of Season 5 released this past Friday, we of course binged it and fell more in love with the story but also the soundtrack. It’s no secret that music in TV and movies is vital to the storyline – they intensify fight scenes, bring tension to those jaw-dropping moments, and add passion to those sultry love scenes. Lucifans have fallen in love with not only Tom Ellis as the Devil but with his soulfully smooth vocals, good enough to turn anyone bad. While we won’t spoil what happens in these 8 intense episodes, we’re excited to share our new playlist featuring the songs of Lucifer Season 5 Part 1 – featuring bops, classics, a few cast members, plus a shoutout to the very special guest star, Sharon Osbourne and her legendary husband, Ozzy.
