Project Power has become one of Netflix’s biggest movies – camping in Netflix’s top 10 for weeks after its release. Highlighted with the all-star casting of Jamie Foxx, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Dominique Fishback and a special appearance by Machine Gun Kelly – Project Power is the unconventional superhero movie everyone’s been waiting for. The plot stems from an age-old question – if you could harness all the word’s power in one unique pill, would you take it? Directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, we follow the story of a young female hustler, Robin [Dominque Fishback] who sells the pill simply known as ‘Power’. Embedded with the DNA of all of the world’s most unique, intense, and dangerous animal defenses – Power delivers superhuman abilities for just 5 minutes. The only catch is that you never know what Power your body will harness until you take a pill – will you become bulletproof? Will you get super strength or become a human torch? Or will you simply explode from sheer overload?
On a mission to find his daughter who’s been kidnapped by the creators of Power, Art [Jamie Foxx] becomes entangled with Robin who also sells Power to a New Orleans cop, Frank Shaver [Joseph Gordon Levitt]. Determined to not let Power overtake the city he swore to project, Shaver levels the playing field by taking the popular street drug which turns him bulletproof. As the fates would allow, Frank, Art, and Robin team up in an effort to save Art’s daughter and put an end to Power.
VMA winner, Machine Gun Kelly makes an appearance in the film as Newt – however, he doesn’t exactly get to see how the story end. Which begs the question, what does MGK have to do to survive more than 10 minutes in a Netflix film? Regardless of his short screen time, MGK houses one of the most wicked powers the pill has to offer – fire.
Project Power is one of Netflix’s most action-packed releases, setting a new standard for the platforms of future films and shows. Backed by an incredible soundtrack featuring award-winning artists like 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne to female powerhouses like CHIKA – we were disappointed to see they didn’t have Jamie Foxx create a featured track for the film. In addition the unbelievable talent on the soundtrack, composer, Joseph Trapanese [Transformers: Age of Extinction, The Greatest Showman, Lady and the Tramp 2019] on the daunting task of composing music fit for Project Power’s jaw-dropping scenes.
Compiled all in one convenient playlist, you’ll be able to jam out to all the tracks featured on the film’s official soundtrack as well as get lost in the film’s score. In honor of Machine Gun Kelly’s recent VMA win for “Bloody Valentine”, you’ll find the winning single on there too – consider it a ‘sorry you blew up’ gesture.
