The trailblazers. The revolutionaries. The modern classics.

LGBTQ+ artists have always made a definitive mark on the music scene– with artists ranging from Janelle Monae to Elton John becoming instant household names with their larger than life personalities, and instant-hit tunes. In honour of Pride 2019, we’ve compiled a playlist of essential tracks to kickstart your festivities; so no matter who you love or how you identify… TURN IT UP.
Find our 5 essential tracks from the playlist that truly personify the pride spirit below.

1) “Broken” – Kim Petras

Since its release in April, “Broken“‘s infectious hook filled with resentment and melancholy has been stuck in our heads. The mellow trap-pop hybrid finds Miss Petras taking her sound in a new direction, and we absolutely love it. It’s bubblegum pop with an updated, darker edge; and as per usual, Kim blows us away with her vocal range on the track.

2) “messy” – serpentwithfeet

A true artist through and through, Josiah Wise aka serpentwithfeet is a once in a lifetime unique forces. Constantly building and morphing the sonic landscapes and musical precedents around him, everything he touches turns into gold- his 2018 album soil is no exception. From the album, “messy” is an especially hypnotizing track that blends genre, and even your own sense or time to induct you into a world of sound you never want to escape.

3) “Number One Fan” – MUNA

The latest single by pop band MUNA, “Number One Fan” is the ultimate dance pop track. It’s just about impossible to stand still when the synths and drums kick in- we can guarantee you’ll be dancing in no time. More so, the track is all about self love and fighting the negative voices- perfect for the joy-filled pride.

4) “You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)” – Dead Or Alive

No matter if you remember the track from the 80’s, from Flo Rida’s sample in “Right Round,” or from when Paul Rudd recently recreated the campy music video with Jimmy Fallon, there’s no denying that this song is catchy, fun, and a perfect party-starter. An absolute pride classic, “You Spin Me Round...” is an essential to round out any Pride celebration.

5) “Masseduction” – St. Vincent

I can’t turn off what turns me on” cries out Annie Clark aka St. Vincent on the Grammy winning track. “Masseduction,” from the album of the same name, is an effortlessly sexy track that isn’t shy about showing every part of human sexuality: kinks and all. The track channels the punk spirit of Pride’s origins and how deep down, Pride is about fighting to live your truth without fear or shame.
