TikTokTues: Blu DeTiger Makes Us Fall Even Deeper In Love With Our “Monsters”
Never in the history of social media has there been a platform quite like TikTok. It welcomes all forms of entertainment – from comedy sketches and movie voice overs to ridiculous dances and epic ‘storytimes’, TikTok is so powerful it may just get banned in the U.S. But, before that happens we have to showcase some incredible talent we’ve been introduced to because of this infamous app.
Last week, our favorite boys of pop-punk, All Time Low, released a haunting acoustic rendition of their chart-topping hit, “Monsters” [originally featuring blackbear]. The track comes from their eighth studio album, Wake Up, Sunshine, and became an instant fan favorite, so much so that ATL launched a contest to see who could perform blackbear’s ‘1 breath verse’. Well, now fans are obsessed with the new acoustic version but there’s one fan whose name you need to be extra familiar with – Blu DeTiger.
Blu is DJ and bassist who not only creates original content but produces incredible bass covers of hit tracks – she tackles everyone from Frank Ocean and Aaliyah to Monte Booker and of course, All Time Low. The cover is so brilliant and unique that it caught the attention of All Time Low themselves, who posted the video to their Instagram page with the captain, “Come onnnnnn !!! Too good.” Of course, each of the guys had their own words for this amazing cover of their acoustic. Guitarist, Jack Barakat commented, “LETS GOOOO.” With Drummer, Rian Dawson saying, “fuck yesss!!” While frontman, Alex Gaskarth simply put, “Ahhhhhhh” – but the feedback we were all waiting for was from bassist, Zack Merrick who very blunted said, “Marry me.” So we think it’s safe to say that they enjoyed her cover just a tad.

While her original TikTok video may only have just over 4,300 views, it did get over 78.2K views on Blu’s Twitter when All Time Low shared it – while also currently gaining over 100K views on All Time Low’s Instagram. While having talent definitely pays off, it helps to cover a track by a supportive group of guys who will showcase raw talent – and Blu DeTiger has plenty of that.
Blu has been using TikTok to connect with her 750.7K+ fans – going live to chat and take musical requests, giving quick bass lessons to the curious, and of course, providing us all with hard-hitting covers and original tracks. Her most recent track, “Figure It Out” was released an earlier year and has already garnered over 607K views to date. “Figure It Out” features a strong bass line with deep lyrics that grace the airwaves. This jazz, funk single fuels you forward for a blissful experience of getting lost in an infectious beat. During its original release, Blu DeTiger took to Facebook to say, “New song ‘Figure it out’ out now! Wrote this song about a year ago but it feels even more relevant right now. Hope it makes you wanna twirl around in your room or wherever you are. Much luv and stay safe.”
Blu is the type of artist that adapts to her surroundings – with the pandemic putting a pause on most live shows for a while, Blu has created her own DJ space inside her home. She refuses to let anything stop her from bringing the party and tunes to her fans. While there’s no word yet on if her cover will make it into one of her live sets – or if All Time Low has any plans bring her out for a few shows in the future – we can still request her brilliant bass cover of All Time Low’s acoustic rendition of “Monsters” during her TikTok lives.
