Sister pop duo Aly & AJ have released the video for “Don’t Need Nothing,” which will appear on their upcoming album, a touch of the beat gets you up on your feet gets you out and then into the sun. The track is just another prime example of why the sisters deserve every ounce of attention they get.
The track kicks off with subtle streaks of guitars interwoven through as Aly talks to a loved one, who is seemingly struggling mentally. She looks for a way to reassure them this rough patch was pass, and it finally hits her: music, the thing she knows best. Staccato drums come in as a push for them to get outside, soak in the sunshine and remain positive for what’s ahead.
Aly asks them to picture their happy place, imagining they’re there with no way for evil outside forces to infiltrate it. She knows they’re scared their demons are always one step away, but she promises there’s no way for them to get to the two of them now. In the second rendition of the chorus, gorgeous harmonies overlay the guitars that are laced with contentment and sunny skies. Aly & AJ both keep repeating this idea that music is the cure-all until it’s locked in their loved one’s mind. The track ends with their voices smoothly fading out, a brilliant way of showcasing how their loved one now feels knowing they’re in safe hands.
The video opens with a stunning view of the mountainside. As the camera pans to a scene with an empty table set, Aly & AJ emerge from behind a tree and start eating and drinking — all of the eateries are aesthetically pleasing — and taking in the sunshine. During Aly’s solo parts, she’s found sitting in a small garden, looking straight into the camera and giving motivation to her friend. The sisters go to clap to the beat as well as dance in the nearby road during the chorus, stirring up even more inspiration and fun-loving vibes. As they pass each other food and Aly struggles to open a bottle of champagne, they try to toast before soaking each other.
The scene becomes even more gorgeous as the sun starts to set. The video continuously flashes between the sister lying on the grass, dancing around or hanging in trees, but in every single one, their smiles are beaming. They go out onto the road again and lift their dresses to oncoming vehicles before heading back out into the field, looking for another adventure.
The new album is due out in a week’s time and is bound to be the sisters’ best yet — yes, even better than the one that houses the anthemic “Potential Breakup Song.” Aly & AJ haven’t faltered in the slightest with their previous singles, so keep this album on your radar — because it’s undoubtedly going to be in your queue for a long time.
