Halloween may have passed, but spooky season isn’t over quite yet! The Haunt has recently shared their neo-noir video for “Twisted Dream”. Filled with frontwoman, Anastasia Grace’s powerful, sultry vocals, the song finds her calling listeners to “Focus on me / Focus on the history / Forget about your twisted dream, / Where I kill you and you kill me.” Haunted, dark, and glitchy, the video follows stunning visuals of Anastasia as she sings and flashes back and forth through eerie supernatural visuals.
“Twisted Dream” was produced by Matt Good [Asking Alexandria, Hollywood Undead, Sleeping with Sirens], who is down for his layers soundscapes and enchanting melodies. Directed by Darren Stein [Jawbreaker, G.B.F., Sparkler], the video also features a cameo by Vander Von Odd, season one winner of The Boulet Brothers’ DRAGULA.
Anastasia recalls her inspiration behind writing the track, “It’s an actual dream about a fleeting relationship I had my freshman year of high school. I just couldn’t get this dream out of my head. My grandfather has a beach house not far from where I live and for a while I was going over there to be by myself and write. And I kept thinking about this dream. It was probably just an anxiety dream about being 15 and trying to figure out what I wanted but it was kind of gory and disturbing, so of course I immediately thought to make it into a song.”
“I was in love with the darkness of ‘Twisted Dream’ from the moment I heard the song. I wanted to embrace the disturbing nature of the relationship with a literal demon set against aesthetic transitions. The eerie shot of Ana’s face behind the translucent fabric came from The Rolling Stones’ Goats Head Soup album cover. I was always drawn to that image of Mick Jagger’s sensuously androgynous face behind that gauzy fabric. I knew Vander Von Odd, the winner of season 1 of The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula, from being a guest judge on the series. Her demonic creature brought the visceral horror to life and really did terrify Ana,” says Stein. Anastasia adds, “Watching her transform herself into the creature from the video was seriously one of the highlights of my life. It was a real dream come true.” Von Odd spoke on his role, explaining, “To embody the raw and sometimes monstrous nature of young love was a nightmare come true.”
“Twisted Dream” follows The Haunt’s recent break out singles, “Brag About“ and “Constant,” which Spotify featured on its Fierce Femmes and New Noise playlists. The band also participated in an Election Day festival for voter advocacy group iVoted, for a virtual nationwide digital concert series with nearly 700 artists to help encourage Americans to vote in the 2020 elections.
