Tyler Posey is a man-of-all-work. Best known for the role of Scott McCall on MTV’s highly-praised series Teen Wolf from 2011-2017, Posey is adept to depict contrasting narratives as an actor and now, solo musician. His musical expertise was promulgated in his previous band PVMNTS and current band Five Northformed by Posey and Kyle Murphy — so the teen phenomenon is anything but new to the scene. However, now this jack-of-all-trades gentlemen has begun channeling his very own autobiography in his new solo endeavor. Posey has officially released his second single accompanied by a brand new music video, “Happy.”

Written with Goldfinger’s John Feldmann and phem [who also co-wrote Tyler’s debut single “Shut Up“], the writing session for the sophomore pop-punk track was a therapeutic one at best. The song encompasses pulsative and high-strung percussion, with components of cutting-electric and then cherried with Posey’s vocal offerings. The soundscape behind the pop-punk pays homage to early pop-punk influences.

Its message is authentically relatable and breaks down that awkward elevator conversation. To engage in small talk these days is overrated and exhausting and Posey is establishing that. Coupled with the release of the single comes a lively music video via Big Noise.

“This song is a bit of a juxtaposition in that it’s called Happy,” Posey says about the song, “The lyrics are kind of anything but. Small talk is full of shit today. When someone asks, ‘How are you?’ and you are honest with someone about mental health issues, it could make them uncomfortable and judge you, So why not just say you’re happy and not deal with the bullshit? That’s what this song is about.”

“Happy” directly follows debut single “Shut Up”which also features legendary drummer Travis Barker. Both singles come after a period of introspection as quarantine was a dark road for Posey. Posey’s mental health took a plunge as deep-rooted anxiety, depression, and drug and alcohol abuse surfaced, and he was left to fend for himself once Los Angeles installed their lockdown orders. Feldmann found himself in a similar boat allowing himself to open up and be honest alongside Posey.

The release of these singles has inaugurated a new chapter for Tyler Posey and the best is yet to come for him, both personally and professionally.
